Would appreciate thoughts/comments on intended fish purchase

Would appreciate thoughts/comments on intended fish purchases. I have a 120 gallon tank. I started to cycle (in bins) about 100 pounds of BRS rock in mid-April. Added probably 50 - 60 pounds of that to the tank in mid-July, when I started up the tank. I added 90 pounds of TBS rock in mid-August. I have the clean up crew (brittle star, peppermint shrimp, turbo snails) and a few extra goodies fro TBS in the tank. Those include some sponges, candelabra gorgonian and a flower pot anemone.

I currently have no fish. Yes, going slow.

As noted below, I am running a SVS3-30 Lifereef skimmer. Have a 40g breeder for a sump, with a small refuge. I've moved most, if not all, of the blue leg hermits to the refuge. I received two sea cucumbers, but I'm pretty sure they both died. Haven't seen either since August.

Here is what I am looking at:

1. Starry Blenny
2. Hi Fin Red Banded Goby
3. Royal Gramma Basslet
4. McCosker's Flasher Wrasse
5. Tail Spot Blenny
6. Gree Chromis
7. Black Ice or Snowflake Clown
8. Kole Yellow Eye Tang

You should be fine with those fish. Have you checked your parameters lately? If you do have two dead sea cucumbers, they can foul things up pretty quick. They don't tend to do well in captivity if they don't have a good supply of food in the tank.

Hi hitch , looks like a nice selection and nothing overly aggressive . The only thing I picked up on was the brittle star, I assume it's not a red one , but thought I had better make sure

I haven't checked my water parameters in a couple of weeks. However, I'm pretty sure that the sea cucumbers have been dead for at least a couple of months. As of my last check, my water parameters were good. The BRS rock seems to be leaching phosphates, so I'm running GFO. I'll run tests over the next day or two, as I'm curious where things stand just before I do a water change.

Blue Spot - It's not a red one. At least, I don't think that it is. Here is a link to what it looks like:

I do have a few gorilla crabs that I need to get rid of. I also have a red Mithrax Crab, which is of a decent size. Love when he comes out. Sometimes he tugs on the Candelabra, but he mainly just eats algae.

If anyone has suggestions on additional fish, I'd appreciate hearing them.

You should be fine, with the possible exception of the Starry Blenny versus the Kole Tang. I don't know if it is because they are both algae eaters but the only aggression I have in my 120 gallon tank is between the Kole Tang and the Blenny. My Kole Tank scrapes himself up making high speed runs at my Blenny who dashes into the SPS corals and sometimes the Tang cannot stop in time. My Purple Tang doesn't seem to care at all about either of the other two, so maybe it's just one of those things.

For the first 6 fish it doesn't matter much, the tang and clowns should go in last.

I don't know if it is because they are both algae eaters but the only aggression I have in my 120 gallon tank is between the Kole Tang and the Blenny. My Purple Tang doesn't seem to care at all about either of the other two, so maybe it's just one of those things.

I agree and the kole tang must be last. However, unless you have a rigorous quarantine protocol, I would stay away from chromis (as they are highly susceptible to uronema marinum)

I've read this about Koles and Starrys as well. I think it's a combo of algae eaters / similar colors. I have a starry so I stayed away from the Kole as it seemed a bunch had this issue with those two.

I've actually had all of these fish (minus that particular blenny) in a tank a while ago, so you're fine like others have said. +1 on Tang and clown last.

Thanks to all! I'll nix the Chromis. Not worth the trouble.

What else could I add? For example, another type of wrasse or a firefish/dartfish?

What about a sand sifter of some sort to keep your sand nice and clean, I always think they are interesting to watch also

My chocolate tang does not get along with my lawnmower blenny, and I don't understand why, maybe both are algae eaters. It's funny my tang is the biggest fish in the tank, and he does not mess with anyone else including Coral Beauty and a small Yellow Tang that was added well after him. The lawnmower was added well before him.

My Tomini Tang harasses the Starry Blenny once in a while.

Likewise. An excellent but easily intimidated fish.

I have a 120 with more fish but my favorite is my one spot foxface. cleans up algae and is a model citizen with other fish and coral. no tangs for me. just my opinion' but I don't think a four foot tank is enough for any tang.
