Would my mantis like these

Hi Hurley,

Those would be pretty expensive meals. I picked up a half dozen small crayfish at the seafood store, and at $2.99 a pound total cost was .19 cents. I only feed them occasionally and keep them live in a washtub with water changes and a little flake food.

The regular diet for my O.S. is prawns, squid, fish, clams, mussels and dried krill soaked in zoecon.

are mussels/clams purchased from the seafood store ok to feed to a mantis ? (the ones meant for human consumption)

Hey dj,

As far as I know they are safe, as many hobbyists also use these for blender mush for general feeding.

Dr. Roy did comment for some of us here on the San Francisco Bay though, that bay animals aren't safe for mantis food. Collected animals for feeding should be from the open ocean side and when I have the chance to do this, I get as far away from civilization and run-off as possible.

hth!
