would theses work for sps?

Seriously? $400 for an led over a 15" by 15" nano... you have to be kidding? He asked to keep it under $100 and you offer a $400 overpriced... :hammer:

Look at a Reef Breeders 'Value Fixture' for $180. It's more than you need, but when you switch to a bigger tank, it will still work. Find a group buy and you can get it for $135.

Kessil is 239, the Ai Sol is more but is control able. Maybe with 100 dollar budget maybe sps isn't the best coral to go with.

I would still sugest both these pendants, have seen them in action and are great OR DIY

It's fine I settled with two PAR38 Leds pretty sure they work for sps and they are affordable and efficient

Yup, maybe try a ocean blue & deep blue or whatever they are called. Although I have never seen SPS grown under them, I'm sure some can. No one here recommended PAR38...
It really depends on how consistent your parameters & ow good your flow is in a small tank.

So you obviously are going topless. Hmmm...PAR38 huh? If your going top less & spending what I think you are for "good" PAR38 bulb/fixtures you can do much better if you research what emitters you want & have Steve's LEDs/or whoever make it for you, if you can't DIY- which requires a soldering iron @ worst, some are plug & play.
Cheap PAR38 bulbs aren't very good, there's a lot of difference between them so do your research.

Really thats all it takes for aquarium diy I use a soldering iron all the time to fix damaged circuits around the house and stuff like that, anyways since it's to late to diy now, the PAR38 bulb I got cost 89.99 so it should be pretty decent in fact I saw someone with two of the guys over his 20 gallon and he successfully has a clam growing in it so these guys must be pretty powerful only thing I have to worry about now is having my fish carpet surf once I take the lid off any suggestions, also should I cover up my little sump area behind my biocube now that it will not have a lid?

I'm confused? You just spent $180 on 2 par38 bulbs and still need to get sockets for them at home depot. So you over $200. An they probably are still not going to be enough for sps.
You could have gotten the steves led package already soldered for $195 and you wont have 2 lamps hanging over your tank.

There are par bulbs that can support some sps. But it is achieved by overlapping and getting them at just the right height. On avg. a good par bulb that can support this is gonna cost about 59 bucks per light
If you are just getting the ones from lowes then think again.

200 PAR will keep low light SPS & crocea clams happy, will any PAR38 alone do this..no.
I don't think anyone suggested this but if you got one go slow & keep high light needing coral close o the top after a slow acclimation over a week/weekend.

The above post has lots of merit, like I said earlier they are not created equal & no one recommended PAR38 bulbs.

Wish you well, plenty of other coral that are prettier than SPS and easier to keep in small tanks.
Rainbow Acans, torch coral, candy cane/trumpets, zoanthids, blastos...an elegance coral if you get your stuff together can prove you know what you are doing. Crocea clams don't need as much light as others.
SPS - digis, stylo&pociloporas & birdsnests are good or a small tank. ..man I'm on repeat. Haha
...so you bought a light already?....

I disagree. 2 par38 bulbs is far more than what's needed for sps, especially with the shape of biocubes.
Although I do love steves, and use their leds whenever possible, especially due to the new M series they are carrying. However, if you don't want DIY, par38 is good.

hey asid you posted to my thread on nano forums, huh looks like I'm no the only one with accounts on multiple reef forums, also two par38 bulbs are enough to even keep some acroporas if you put them at the very tip of your tank, I've seen pictures and videos of it being done before, oh and also kind of random but MichiganMike rainbow acans are one of my favorite corals! A few problems with the par38 is that now I have to figure out a way to keep my wheeler's goby from carpet surfing. Also I have a few acan, zoa, and a plate coral sitting at the bottom of my tank right now do you think I should put them a bit into the shade since the light would be pretty bright?

Well the par bulbs I got were from reefbreeders.com and they cost $89 so I think that should be enough to atleast support some monticaps

You can do some interesting things when hanging the PAR bulbs, I'm not sure you'd want them side by side, but maybe next to each other with one a little higher than the other.

------[<... |Tank
--[< ....... |Tank

Kinda like this above.
---[< being the PAR38.

The PAR38 bulbs are okay for certain applications. Maybe can play with the optics if needed.

Maybe an acrylic sheet it to fit with a few lips to let it sit properly and grab it easy, maybe a screen top of some kind?

Ya you should take it easy with the plate coral etc. @ first, just watch them & go kinda slow. Hopefully everything will be fine & adjust.

so can I get sps with the par38s I just showed you? I'm hoping these two light will be enough for a stylophora/pocillopora what do you guys think is that enough or no?
