would this work?

I have a 5.5g (plus about 3g in the filter/sump) tank, it's has about 50w of power compact lighting over it, i was just wondering if any sort of clam would work if i put him up close to the lights on the rockwork?

Thanks

Definitely look into keeping stable parameters, much much harder to accomplish in a small system, than having adequate lighting.

You can always buy better lighting, but your existing lighting is insufficient.
The proper lighting that you do need for most Tridacnids would likely overheat the water in such a small tank.

It's debatable the lighting you need, though. For a clam such as a T. squamosa or T. derasa you may be able to get away with PC lighting, but perhaps not for long, and also you will need supplemental feeding either way (which will pollute the water in such a small system). Not to mention that those two species of clams just happen to be the two that do get huge! If you really do want a clam, you will have to make the proper preparation to monitor your parameters as well as make sure the proper lighting is provided. Also have a means of feeding ready for the clams! (Phytoplankton)

Hope this helps!

Well, i've been culturing phyto for a while now, so food shouldn't be a problem, and couldn't you also bowl feed larger clams even? i don't think stability will be to much of a problem, i've been keepin' the nanos up for quite some time now, i was also wondering, if a squamosa or a derasa would work in a 180g under 3x175W HQI, 2x130W CF, i'm guessing the lighting would work, but i'm just worried about the tankmates, it's going to be a predator reef w/ moray eel, grouper and lionfish, i'm just wondering if clam(s) would work with those tankmates

edit: sorry if i'm being difficult, i just really want it to work and be able to try clams
