I havnt been on rc in 2 years... wow... time flies..

I used to have a photography studio and a 200 gallon reef tank. Bout jan of 2010 someone offered me a whole lot of $ to move out and rent them my
building. Someone is currently holding all my corals... although i don't think i've talked to him in a year.. lol..

SO my tank is sitting empty in my garage.. along with the calcium reactor, skimmer, pumps, etc..

My wife and i own a place out in the country that is a 7 acre wedding facility... full of roses, gazebos, etc..

we're starting the plans on a 6000 square foot reception hall, because we are loosing too many people who want a bigger prettier place than we currently have..

now.. this is why i've come back..

I've been playing with the idea of a 500 - 1000 gallon tank in the entry hall.
I can get the tank out of houston, and add stuff from various places. But i;m checking in to see what;s changed... last time i was here i was using 400 watt mh... 3 of them.. they were hot, and i could touch part of the lid and get a shock... (don't worry.. it's dismantled...)

I've heard theres better stuff now for lights... and probably other things..

the tank part would be an insignificant amount compared to the building...

no... I'm not rich.. i just make money using other peoples money.. i borrow it from the bank. Just wanted to add a glass tank (not acrylic) into the budget, and add the lights, and other stuff out of my own tank and pocket... IF it happens..

The slab itself is going to have to have pillars bored into the ground to help the slab support the 3000 lbs psi for the building. So think a tank wouldnt be any problem.. but just checking on things like this...

any thoughts?

LEDs are the wave of the future. They are low temp, low energy, and the bulbs last many years before needing replacement. Water depth can be an issue with some, but this is improving all the time (the technology is still fairly new). See the DIY forum if you are into building your own, otherwise be prepared for some sticker shock (again, new technology).

Are you sure you want to put a reef tank anywhere near a bunch of rowdy wedding guests? :celeb1:
