Wow, serious parts problem for 6200

I'm a bit bummed. The impeller on my 6200 stream cracked, don't know why, nothing I did, it just started that screaming alarm, and when I took it apart there was a hair line crack, and now matter how well I clean it or the drive the crack prevents it from running. I call a couple of places, apparently most do not stock Tunze parts, but they always have them drop shipped from Tunze. Okay, so no problem, but now I got a call back and the part is on back order which means it's on a slow boat from Germany for the next 8 weeks. Is this common? While I do have a lot of spare part for my critical pieces of equipment for my 400 gallon system, I don't have one of everything. I'm not sure that my larger SPS colonies are going to be happy with 50% less flow for 8 weeks. Is there any way to move the process along....should I fly to Germany?

Any help would be appreciated.

Greg,

You were misinformed, after 8 years of making these parts the molds are severely worn and producing parts which produce noise and wear out prematurely. In late July these molds were pulled and are being resurfaced. This is a long process because we do the machining in house but the molds have to be sent off for detempering and tempering before and after the work is done. They should be back in production in 2 weeks, I checked in on Monday and the repair work was almost complete. I am not sure where the communication broke down but what I had said was we have not had this part for 6 weeks and it will likely be 2-3 more before we get more. I do have many of the subassembly parts on hand like the 3000.630 magnet and what I have told anyone who cannot wait is to send me your pump with what you have of your drive unit and I will patch it together with the sub assemblies as best I can and only charge will be the parts and shipping. Many of these parts I have used and can get something patched up for free for the time being excluding shipping. I like to have the pump so I can test that it works and is not unbearably loud. We very rarely run out of parts but as these pumps are now out of production it seemed a good time to get the molds repaired so we could produce reliable parts.

So, likely wait is 2-3 weeks? (please confirm). I think I can wait that long. If you think it will be longer I'd be happy to ship it to you.

I will follow up with Mr. Tunze next week on these parts, when I asked him Monday the molds were very close to ready. It only takes 5 business days for a shipment to reach us from the factory so it is not a long delay if they are ready. While we do have shipments that come by sea, this is mainly salt, filter kits and bulky items, parts and small stuff almost exclusively come by air and the only long delays are usually based on production and not shipping.

Greg, if all you need is a prop, I’m sure I have one around here somewhere. If Roger agrees with that diagnosis, Pm your shipping address.

Roger was nice enough to scavenge a used impeller out of another piece of equipment and ship it to me while I wait for the replacement parts. Popped it in this afternoon and BINGO, back in businss, fired up like a champ!

Thanks a ton for the help on this.
