wpg for pcs?

I've seen some people keep easy SPS like monti caps, monti digi, and green slimers. I personally think MH is the only way to go if you are looking to keep a variety of SPS.

Well, I would say you would have to have atleast 4x96w PC's over a 55 to even have a chance to keep some of the easier SPS. I would guess that would be all you might be able to fit.

Mine is 175 MH + 64 W of PC over a 12 gallon ~20WPG. And I don't feel like I have enough light or the right kind of light. I've seen people use 5wpg and get beautiful results, as compared to mine.

Using WPGs is such a bad method of approximation in this hobby. WPG do not take into account height levels of each light, the quality of the reflector(if its used at all), intensity, the angles the light comes into a certain spot at, etc... So to sum it up I doubt anyone reliable will give you a number.

WPG is the worst term ever. Different kinds of lights penetrate water better.

On a 55g, you'll want 4x96w PC's to keep easier SPS (monti cap, monti digi, etc)..

Don't waste your money on a PC setup. You can get a really nice MH retrofit for pretty cheap and T5 are really nice as well.

so again how many wpg pf pcs to keep sps? haha. its a number...
lol. wpg is useless. It doesn't take into account the shape of the tank. Also it doesn't take into account the actual light output or quality of the light. lol. I've never heard of anyone keeping SPS with PC. So I think the answer is 0. lol. As you will come to discover (after you ignore us and attempt it anyways), you can't skimp on things and keep SPS. So you might want to start researching T-5 and MH now so you will know which one you want when you realize you need better lighting. lol.

With SPS, lighting is not the only factor, and not even the most important one. Flow, and nutrient levels are more important.

I've seen acros growing under the striplights that come with tanks. Its no easy, but it can be done. More light just makes it easier.

I have 1.63 watts per gallon on my 265 achieved using t5's. a total of 432 watts and I have the bulbs about 8 -10 inches from the waters surface and acros about 24-25 inches from the waters surface. they are all growing and looking well. they are not just green slimmer I have tort, tenuos or how ever you spell it. stags and tables. anemones and everything. as stated it isn't watts per gallon I just put the number up so you can see what can be done . lots of things have changed in this hobby and pc's were never that popular but I am thinking they will be out of production soon.
