wrasse and anthias ?

I am very nervous to purchase livestock through the internet.
I would like to purchase a female hawaiian flame wrase from the LA divers den. Also, some female lyretails from the weekly specials. I have a 150 gallon reef, which has a few tangs ( hippo, purple, mimic), gobies and a foxface. I have prevously had fish eg... midas bleeny, diamond goby, pink margin wrasse, squarespot anthias be harassed to the point of jumping. I would hate to have this happen again. It usually takes place the first 72 hours.
What do you recomend I can do to help aleaveate this problem. I have seen people add wrasses and anthias after tangs all the time with no problems. Closing off part of my tank for the new fish would be a major rock move I really dont want to do. I do have a refugeium that can work but it is almost completely full of plants.
I really want to make this purchase but am concered about the outcomes. Thanks again for all your help.

Jumping wrasses & anthias in the first few days is inevitable wether they are been chased or not! and the chances are still high even after this initial period.
I gave up on loosing fishes due to jumping, and rather to try to understand them, I have come up with a way to completely seal the tank 100% with out sacrificing cooling by using mesh materials and eggcrate.
This has worked perfect so far and has helped me get the confidence to buy this pretty expensive fishes again.
The fishes are still jumping (I hear them and see them) but they bounce right back into the water, so far I have not loose another fish in a long time.

rogger chains his fish to the rocks...doesnt look nice but keeps those buggers locked in

Wait till you start wondering were your $75 Scotts's whom you have not seen in a few days is? I will tell you the answer in two words, Tosa + Stomach! :D

Suicidal eel

Suicidal eel

I just had an eel commit suicide last night buy jumping in an overflow, going up the standpipe (through the screen) and getting caught in a sock. poor guy.

Can we get a pick of the egg crate contraption you created?

Saw some dispar anthias today. A school of about 8. Only about 3 were really eating well. The owner said take all of them and the ones that aren't eating will be enticed by the ones that eat. They all looked pritty good even the ones that didnt eat. Are those comments true?
Thanks for help with the ongoing saga...

100% No

Unfortunately I disagree. Captive fish in pet store are very stress, nets going in and out of the tank, people tapping on the glass, and too many fish crowed together in a small tank. Some fish take a little longer to acclimate than others. If I were you I would ask to guarantee the fish not eating.

In the past, I’ve had fish eating at the store and die two week later, and had others not eat at the store and live a very long time. It’s all a gamble!

You also need to know were the fish are coming from. Some areas drug and other don’t.

Furthermore, they should be acclimated for a lease a month.

i have to side w/ rogger on this one, i think in the long run if you start out w/ good quality that you will have good quality fish in the end.

Tvarg, the idea of getting the store to guarantee the fish is good, it will benefit the store, fishes and customer, unfortunately is one that no LFS wants to jump at.

You are right about a "gamble", however the odds of a fish not making it significantly diminish when he does not want to eat at the store and vice versa, but of course like you mentioned this is not a guarantee.

Asking the fish store owner were the fish are coming from is also in my opinion useless, for two reasons, in the most part they don't really know and when they do know they can't be assured that their provider is not getting fish from several collectors and this collectors are not using cyanide regardless of their countries laws.

Ignoring these laws in third world countries is not unusual practice, this peoples life's depend on the fishes they collect, in fact ignoring fishing laws is not unusual even here, I remember just reading about a guy who got caught with 300lbs of live rock here in Florida!

For anthias, I think Id be better of purchasing online ( Liveaquaria, mknwaves, ect) than at LFS. They both offer 14 day peice of mind for me !! I will prob. pay a little more but getting a healthy specimen of a fish you want is truly priceless.
Now to decide... Lyretail or Bartletts?
Thanks again for all the help...
