wrasse compatibility

I have a melenaris wrasse now. He showed some aggression when I first introduced a midas blenny and a fire fish.

I've been considering buying a Red Head Solon Fairy Wrasse. Would they get along? This is in a 75g

Did you introduce them with the lights on?

As said above you can't bet on anything but I had a melanarus and he never bothered any other fish. Snails, crabs and clams were a different story.

My Melanarus is definitely an aggressive. I may have to add more than one fish.

I always add with lights off. Maybe I should do it when the Melanarus is sleeping in his sandbed

Aggressive tankmates will mean the demise of your firefish. A C. solorensis will definitely intimidate it.

I have a melenaris that showed some aggression when first added. Recently I added a mystery wrasse and all has been well. But like everyone else has said you can never really be sure until you add it in there. I have also never tried adding a fish at night, but sounds like an ok idea. Although, If it were me and someone added something to my house while I was sleeping I would have a coronary or something:fun5::eek1: Hope all goes well.

I tired introducing a melanurus wrasse at the same time with a red head solon wrasse. The melanurus really bullied the red head and it didn't end well. The melanurus turned out to be a terrific fish, and didn't seem to bother any other tank mates. I never tried another wrasse, but I think another wrasse in the halichoeres family might be a good choice.

How big is your melenarus? That can sometimes make a difference on whether it will pick on a new and smaller tank mate. Obviously not always the case, but something to consider. If you have a friend or a quarantine tank you could always remove the more aggressive fish before introducing the new wrasse and then bring it back at a later time, when the less aggressive fish is more established in the tank's community. Again hope all works out well.
P.S. there is also a big post on fish compatibility if you want to check it out, some more experienced reefers than me Im sure would lend you a helping hand... Heres the link.

the solorensis wrasse will end up being a PITA if you ask me as they get aggressive in most situations unless they are housed in a large tank .your fire fish will not stand a chance in the same setting IMO .
i have found that feeding the tank before new fish are introduced and leaving the lights off for a couple of days helps in many cases but its not a remidy to fish that are incompatible in most cases .

Firefish is now gone. What wrasse should I consider then?
