Wrasse proofing a tank

So last night my carpenter flasher wrasse decided the floor looked better than my tank and jumped out. Lucky I was there and saw it happen and quickly got him back in the tank. this is the second time this has happened. Both times he jumped through or pushed away the egg crate over the tank.

What is the best way to protect your tank against jumpers?

I have seen fairy wrasses jump through egg crate fairly easily. I went to Home Depot and got a window screen kit and some bird netting. If you search the forum, you should find posts with pictures. Basically, you cut the screen frame to match your tank, and then use the birdnetting instead of the typical mesh screen to line the frame. Make sure you use 3 - 4 layers of the netting.

hood.

I currently have the Nova Extreme pro light fixture and plan on upgrading to the ATI Power Module both do not fare well in a hood.

DIY bird netting top with build your own screen door for the sides

Will the netting top reduce the PAR of my lighting?

Just do something like this. Just uses window net frame, I used bait casting nets ( softer and easier on the fish ) costs more but you can get nets from osh and other places.

I have had wrasses jump through the bird netting as well. I would recommend 2 layers of bird netting offset to make the holes smaller. A completely enclosed canopy is best. I hear them jump from time to time bounce off and fall back in.

Just pick smaller holes like 3/8th's or smaller. firefish and the likes mights still be able to get through.
