Wrasse seen today

Kind of excited - Tuesday we finally put our 2 purple fire fish, blue stripped black Velvet damsel, twin spot goby and a kole tang in our DT. All the new guys hid in the 125lb of live rock as to be expected, peaking out every once in a while.
The DT only had 3 chromis and a carpenter flasher wrasse as far as fish go. Well, 1 hour after releasing them into the DT we heard a large splash - we quickly looked to see what was happening. All of the fish looked spooked and were accounted for except the wrasse. We have egg crate to prevent suicide attempts but we looked on the floor around the DT anyway. Did not see anything. We figured he would show up by morning since he has always been outgoing (not aggressive) since we have had him (4 months). Well he didn't show up. The next couple of days we looked for a carcass - none found. Long story short today while feeding, he darted out of no where, grabbed some food and back into the LR. He did this a few times and he is now back hiding in the LR somewhere. We have never seen him act so skittish before - guessing he use to be "king" and isn't taking well to the new guys. Anyway, we are soo glad he is alive.

Glad he is alive.

BTW, that damsel will grow up into a terror. Especially with your other relatively passive tankmates. I would suggest removing him ASAP!

Thats good news! I agree with SDGuy about the damsel. Also, try and target feed youe twin spot goby. Place pellets underneath the sand for it to find. If you don't get it on prepared foods it will die.

And two firefish will become one eventually since they do not like each other. Also egg crate will not keep fairy wrasses or firefish in the tank.

I'm seeing now what a mistake the damsel was - thats the only one we bought with out researching first (I know better). Getting him out will be interesting. stupid, stupid move on MY behave. We have been spot-feeding the goby as you suggested, hopefully it takes to prepared food. They are interesting fish and thought we would try to keep one. The 2 fire fish are suppose to be mated, Not sure how you know for sure but I hope that increases their chances of NOT killing each other.
Thanks

I wouldn't worry to much about the fire fish. I have 3 in my 90g for over 2 years and 2 in my 29 for about 6 months. If introduced to the tank at the same time they should do fine. Adding a firefish to a tank with another firefish who been in it the tank for a while is another story.

A mated pair of firefish will do great together! You can tell if they are mated because they will hover near each other and may even brush up against each other/intertwine kind of thing! When I first started in SW I was lucky enough to have a pair and they were wonderful to watch together... :D

Thanks for the replies - yes, both fire fish are each others shadows, yes that close - they are sharing the same bolt holes as well.
