Wrasses for a 40 breeder reef?

Hello all! I was just wondering what a good wrasse would be for my 40b reef. So far I have a royal gramma, 2 ocellaris clowns, and 1 bangaii cardinal. I have heard that 6 lines can be jerks. I just wanted to know what you guys thought. Thanks!

Possum wrasses are small and fairly peaceful.

A 40 breeder has enough swimming space for flasher wrasses, smaller fairy wrasses and smaller Halichoeres wrasses.

i had a six line in a similar sized tank and he was fine, although i think i may have just been lucky… you could always try a 4 line.

I would stay away from all members of the Pseudocheilinus genus personally, which includes both you mentioned.

is it not true to say that the 4 lines is naturally less aggressive than the 6 line, also to further reduce aggression from the wrasse it should be added last to help and further minimise aggression. However, if you wish not to add either of these wrasse i'd suggest adding a possum wrasse. although they're shy at first they soon become more open.

I havent found 4 lines to be any less aggressive than any other Pseudocheilinus species, just not kept as often as sixlines so less accounts of aggression.

While adding it last may minimize aggression to a degree it seldom works out were it will truly be the last fish and it will severely limit future additions.

Exactly. Especially in smaller tanks.

Strangely, despite everyone telling stories of aggressive sixtine, I have never had aggression from six line wrasse myself. I have had tanks of multiple sizes from as small as a 14 biocube to currently 180 and have always had a six line wrasse in each of the tanks and none of them have ever been aggressive. They are psychedelic and full of personality. Darting in and out of rocks but never bother any tank mates. But again, in each of the tanks I have had I've always had a more dominatingly aggressive fish than the sixline from clowns in the 14 BC to various tangs in the 180.

I have a Hoeven's that is gorgeous growing fast hunts all day and eats anything I feed. Love the fish.

Oh. And it has this great behavior if it grabs a myesis that's too big to break in its jaw it smacks it on a rock a couple times then scarfs it down. Way cool.
