Is two AC220-240V 50Hz 16W G5/ IPX5 bulbs okay for corals?
because I have this fish tank and I want to make it into a nano reef but I think the bulbs are deffanatly not right.

Sean...what kind of bulbs are these? Are they power compact flourescent?

yes I think so they are not halide

Anyone? Hehe....you gotta remember we're asleep here in this part of the world until now, Sean. The other thing we'd need to know before we can even give an opinion on the suitability of the bulbs is...What is the Kelvin-rating of them. Marine tanks don't look, IMO, at all natural when the color casted by the bulbs on them is yellowish to yellow. So, if the Kelvin-rating for the bulbs is low....in the 6500K-range then IMO they aren't suitable.

Sorry, I keep foregetting that. I am not sure what the kelvin rating is and it doesn't mention it anywhere on the hood or bulbs but they are very white.

Well, if they are very white and don't have any yellowish coloration at all, then you could probably use them. Just remembter that you would only have 32-watts of lighting compact flourescent lighting from them so the two bulbs together would only support coral that are fairly close to them. I'd suggest that if you want to use these bulbs, then have your coral in the upper part of the tank on the rockwork, and in the lower areas, keep non-light-dependant livestock like Feather Dusters, Sun Coral, etc. That way it won't look lifeless on the bottom part of the rockwork but the coral that you have that needs light will be close enought to the bulbs to get their intensity. Remember, though, that your nano will be, to some extent, and experiment with such unknown bulbs and you may have to replace the fixture that you have with something else that provides more of a known entity if the coral doesn't thrive under them. keep us posted here on your progress.
