WTB a portable generator (5kw)

Are you looking for used? or new? Sears has them and so does the wholesale clubs usually. My dad picked one up from Sears a while back it works great. I have a 4 KW unit if you just need a temp situation. Let me know. Mark

I am checking to see if I can find a good used one first. If not, then I'll get a new one. I can't really afford to put in a large stationary right now. So, after pondering weaknesses in my system I started to think that purchasing a generator would be my next best investment. Thanks for the offer for use yours, but I don't have any need for one right this moment.

I have 2 7kw generators for sale, made by newgen, or buffalo tools. They run great and are brand new, only test run once a month asking 700 plus shipping. Battery start 220v or 110v.

I Have a Wacker brand 5.6kw I purchased used with a 11hp Honda Engine. It starts on 1st pull every time. Electric start is a waste of money and adds weight unless you can find a cheap used one. just my 2 cents. Karl

Lastnight a storm hammered our home town, Uprooted trees, smashed cars and homes and one young lady even lost her life.

Our power was out for 10 hours and I am 4 hours from home working... My wife was left on her own to handle things. The generator wouldnt start and only have 1 UPS.

Part of our town is still without power, over 24 hrs later... If that was us, I'd be in trouble.

She managed ok and nothing was lost but I'm now strongly considering a whole house generator.

I am glad to hear you guys are ok down there. I know I was watching the weather very closely yesterday. I work with 400' lightening rods.

I would love to put in a whole house generator. The one Ron listed would have been a good buy. I am still debating the cost of a new one if I can't find a cheap used model. I would hate to drop 600+ into a portable when I could invest that into a stationary.

I hear ya.

Getting a deal on one would help tho, you could always sell it later...

Heres some of the news online about the storm and some pics.

Mike, if you decide to buy new don't forget that Lowe's offers 10% off orders up to $5,000. If you fill out the moving form they will send you a coupon. I just used this to purchase a new washer/dryer set. Saved $150 :D

Lowes will also price match and then take an additional 10% off the lower price you found!

Here's the coupon form http://www.lowesmoving.com/

Enjoy!

PS. I don't work for them or gain anything but I like to save money so I thought I'd post :)

Kevin, the Generators for whole houses are special order at Lowe's. They meet the price if you find it cheaper (cheapest I have found has been at Lowes) they just price match it because it is special order but will not give you the extra 10% (has to be stock merchandise in order to get price match plus 10%). They however will still stake 10% off if you open a Lowe's card or you can use the 10% discount.
