(WTB) Berghia Nudibranchs

I wouldn't waste your money. They don't work for aptasia.

I beg to differ, I had some a while back and they totally got rid of every aptasia in my tank. IMO they work great.

what percentage of people feel that used berghia feel that they were successful with them?
I bet less than 50 percent!
It's a scam.

dochou,

Have you ever tried Berghia in your tank?
Aptasia are the only thing they eat, how is that a scam???

I have tried Bergias 5 times over the yrs. They did not eat the aptasia. Many folks here have tried them and have not had much success. So my conclusion from reading the forums, is that your success rate with them will be less than 50%. The bergias may eat aptasia in a isolated system but in a typical reef tank with lots of flow and other variables, the success rate is poor.

With higher flow tanks they really don't fair well. Since the majority of this forum (BAR) are SPSers, our experince is going to be fairly similar, ie. didn't work. Probably would work in a 24g zoa and shroom tank :)

They worked almost immediately in our tank. Get them shipped from Salty Underground, price and customer service are fantastic.

Only problem, once the aptasia is gone they will die from starvation...

I totally agree with Gresham. When I had them in the fuge, it seems to work. It took them a while to get all the aptasia though. When I released them into the main tank. They were no where to be found. I just manually blast them as I see them with kalk paste.

I bought some from a group buy with Skype. Mine disappeared forever and left the aiptasia, his ate ALL the aiptasia in his tank AND multiplied (then died off due to lack of aiptasia).

I don't have the heart to try one more time, they don't do well in my tank.

We need someone to set up a 100 gallon tank and grow out 10,000,000 aiptasias (easy!) and then try and breed them locally!

I can donate 9,000,000 aiptasias :p

I guy in Denver just told me a sort of funny, but sad story about his attempts. He bought a TON, I mean a TON of them and threw them all in his tank at once. A bunch landed on the larger ap's and got gobbled up themselves. The preditor turned prey story.

I've seem them swarming Aiptasia and slowly demolishing it... So it can't be called a scam. I think it could be accurate to say they aren't an effective approach in your average reef-tank though. I tried them a long time ago and I lost the things immediately trying to put them on a small aiptasia. In fact, I had a hard time finding them in the plastic bag as they are small and white.

If you have small low flow tank that you can cycle your rocks through it might just work for you.

so let's take a poll. how many of you, who have tried them, would recommend them for aptasia control?
How many peeps who have used them for aptasia control, would consider their attempts successful?
I'm thinking most of us did not consider them a great success.

When I used them it was in my previous 74g tank. I almost never saw them but they did eat all the aptasia and then died from lack of food. To bad they do not work all the time for everyone, it is a lot easier than Joe's Juice.

my 55gal tank was FULL of them. I got two of those little boogers and about 2months time, they were all gone! And like I told Vincerama2, they did reproduced in my tank. I wanted to catch them and offered them to the members but was really hard to catch in the rocks.

Biological controls are always iffy. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. I don't like biological controls unless you are actually interested in keeping the control animal for itself.

There are enough cases of berghia not doing well in show tanks to make me not recommend them (my experience as well) in a show tank, however keeping them in a separate tank and rotating aptasia infected rocks through that tank seems to work well (though labor intensive).
