I am looking to buy any number of nas-snails you have to offer. I need in total about 50-70 of em.... but am willing to buy in any quantity it takes in order to get up to that many. Also, I have a sand sifting star and several hermits that I could trade if ur interested.

TJ....friendly advice...dont buy those 1/2" size ones that you find all over the place..they will die eventually...happened to me a few times...i understand that they are a cold water species...but not certain.

anyways...what you want is what they call tongan or super nassarius snails - they are lighter in color and 1" in size or so...i have several and they do a very good job on the sand and lasted me all this time (1 year +)

hope this helps

agree with gooliver. get the vibex type. alot smaller than the ones on ebay that are more for cold water. try aquaticisland. they have them at a good price.

How big is your tank? Are you sure you want that many? IMO, they can cause problems if you have too many...they become really aggressive.

i'm not sure that "aggressive" is the right word...they're not gonna hurt anything. They can be "aggressive" detritus eaters.

My tank is 125g. I currently have a sand siftings star and 2 brittle stars keeping my sand bed stirred and clean.... but im getting rid of the sand star. I read on RC that u should/can have approx 1 Nas snail per gallon of tank volume.... so I figured starting off with 50 would be good. They will do a great job of stirring the sand, but will also eat detritous, which the sand star doesnt. Thanks for the tip on the cold water ones.....

S2k.... are these the ones you mentioned? Gooliver (or any one else)... are these the ones that I should get?

Thanks again!

I have those, work great.
Price is not to bad.
I had a brittle star take-out a couple of fish.
Now I have serpentine stars there good and safe I think?
So far so good the last 6 months.

The ones I got works just fine. they pop out of the sand when you feed your fish.

The ones from liveaquaria is too expensive plus kenton from aquaticisland is easy to deal with. i think he's somewhere in OC so shipping should arrive next day.

NO...these are the ones:

why are you getting rid of the sand starfish?

which brittle starts did you get? i want to get some too but im afraid they might eat some other fish.

The sand star does a great job... the only prob is that A) They dont eat detritous and B)They are voracious.... and feed on pods all day! I want to keep a pair of mandarins, so I need to get something that will keep the sand stirred up but wont do a number on my pod population. :)

I have a black brittle star... never had any problems. U will almost never see it. It will find its way under or into a live rock, and stay out off sight until the lights have been off for an hour or so. Both of mine have gotten pretty big.... but I have never had a prob with them eating any of my fish.. not even small fiish like damsels. Great scavengers, though. They catch a lot of the flake food that floats around the tank.

Oliver, ur right... those are the ones I want. I have one now, and it is the coolest thing to watch! I gotta find a better deal than that, though! $2.79 per is outrageous! Then again... everything in this hobby is outrageous! :)

The only really I said they are aggressive is that they can voracious eaters. They not only eat detritus but they are definitely carnivors too. I've had fish die or food drop to the bottom and they all over them in a couple minutes.

Don't get me wrong they are beneficial, but I think it's prudent to put in a smaller quantity. I've never really observed it, but I'm sure they're similar to sand stars where they can devastate your population of beneficial animals in the sand bed.

I've had some in my tank for around 2 yrs now and they do a good job keeping the sand clean, but I only have 5 to 7 of them in my 135. I think if you get that many, there won't be enough food to go around and they will start dying off. Anyways, it couldn't hurt to start off on a smaller quanitity and then increase them later. good luck.

Those little $.39 jobbers look great, but the minimum purchase is 20 of them, and I have a 55G tank.

I was thinking maybe 5 of them, but that leaves me 15. I could do 5 more in my fuge/sump and have 10 spares! lol

Do you think I should do more? I'm a little lost in that the topic kind of switched to stars. Are you guys concerned about the Snails killing off the DSB, or are you just talking about the stars?

me and my friend bought 100 of them and we split 50/50.. and ive had it since jan. of this year. and they're still alive.

sand shifting star fish.. i heard are not that great because it eats all the living things in your sand..

Thats exactly why I am getting rid of the sand star. I think I will start off with 15 or 20, since I am also gonna get rid of a lot of my hermits.

Anyone selling some of these snails?

We bought a few from Coral Oasis for $2 per. But it's quite a drive for you from LB.
