WTB Skimmer for a 125

My personal experience with ASM G series has been great. A G3 or G2 or even a G1 would suit your purposes. They work and are easy to adjust, which is important.

Jason can most likely turn the seaclone into an octopus.

PJT has one of his skimmers on it and I must say it is the best hang on skimmer I have ever seen.

Once I get all my new system going I am going to take the skimmer i am using now to him and let him play with it. It is one of the larger aquaclear models.

Maybe have him turn it into a hang on for that extra polishing I sometimes like to do.

Lots of good skimmers out there. My recomendation would depend on size constraints, noise and budget.

Overall I like ASM, Euroreef and H&S.

Matt likes expensive skimmers like Euroreef because he has a boss who pays him too much, so he has lots of expendable income. Plus, he can get stuff wholesale using a company credit card.
You should all be so lucky.

I've got three Berlins which DO NOT WORK. I don't know why - I've tried cleaning them, etc. I guess I could spend hours on mods, but I really don't have the time. I spoke to a local dealer who recently threw away some Berlins because they don't work.

Okay, the search continues. I think probably a ASM when I can afford it. Meanwhile, I have to make this seaclown work. Any recommendations? I'm thinking short term mods just to make this thing last.

Good choice in the ASM. I'm another happy owner.
Short term seaclone mods.
Replace the stock air valve adjustment with a needle wheel valve.
If you're using the sponge on the venturi take it off.
If it's a newer model the inner riser should be ok. If it's an older one cut the inner riser to around 3".
Do a bioball mod to make it work like a needlewheel skimmer. There's a picture of a bioball mod about 2/3 down
this page.

You might want to search and see if anybody is doing a mesh mod or fishing line mod with these (newer ways to mimic a needlewheel). I'm familiar with the bioball mod and have used it for several years. It definitely won't make a seaclone anything special but it does improve the performance a lot. Then again mine's only on a 20 gallon tank.

If you want to get more involved Jason has instructions to turn one into a recirculating skimmer on the cvrc web page.

I tried so of those mods. I took out the inner riser and cut it down, but I cannot get it back in. Right now, I am running it without a riser. That's not working so well. LOL.

I may try the recirc mod if I can dig up a small powerhead.

Oh, I also have an oceanic 4 laying around. It's a total piece of crap, too. Any ideas with that?
