I need a sump pump that can handle a 75g with 20 long sump and uv sterilizer. It needs to be a internal model.

Theres a mag 7 on ebay right now for $40 bucks.. heck of a deal... i used to run 1 on my 72bowfront and actually had to restrict it a little

I have a Resun pump, lots of flow, submergible (only runs that way as the seal leaked and I had to silicon it). If interested I'll get you some details. $30 so you can't beat the price.

I thought about getting a mag 9. I'm going to run 1" pvc up to a uv sterlizer off the return as well on up to a splitter forked with 2 3/4" braided flex line in up.

Here's the Resun pump photos:

Would the mag 9 be too much pump for a 75 g.

Depends on your intake.... if it cant keep up with it its going to gurgle ALOT . u could install a ball valve and restrict it should be fine... but check out what CEE has posted... 1650GPH at a great price

It is a monster and can be run external. I fired it up in the sink this w/e an almost flooded the kitchen. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, UL listed, and easily worth over $100 but I have no use for it on my bani.

Why are you going to run a UV sterilizer?

Is it going to be a reef tank?

Don't run a UV sterilizer all the time on a reef tank!

If you're going to hook one up and not run it and just keep it in case you get ich (only running it during the times when your fish have ich, which hopfully won't be very often, if ever) then GREAT!

Otherwise...don't run a UV sterilizer on a reef tank!

There's beneficial bacteria all throughout your water and you're basically killing them off with a UV sterilizer. You reduce your tank's ability to handle nitrogen in that case.

Also, if Dave (cee) says that's a good pump, you can trust him. Though I don't disagree with Rob about using a Mag9.5 either.

Some people put more flow through their system with the return pump and less with extra powerheads. In this case, using Dave's pump externally would not add to the heat in your tank. Basically all those return pumps get hot and if it's run externally the heat just dissipates into the air versus ones that sit in the sump...whose heat dissipates into the water.

However, other people tend to keep their flow through the return pump at about 10x turnover (taking the head pressure into account) and make up the difference in a flow with Vortecs, Tunze, or cheap koralias (I'm sure I misspelled all three of those names).

It's just up to you...and depends on what your overflows can handle.
