WTB: Used 35-55gal acrylic tank

Need one for my sump/fuge in a tank I am setting up... would rather buy a scratchy used one since it's not a DT, rather than a new one.... 55L would be ideal, but anything 35gal and up would work...

let me know if any of you have something like that, or see one around town?

Thanks!

Doug

I have some 50 and 55 gallons left fs glass $30 ea. would make great sumps ..If you need holes drilled or baffles installed I can do that for ya..

Thanks, but I don't really trust holes in glass sidewalls unless they were made with thicker glass... I work with glass for a living and have seen too many "well it SHOULD have worked" moments to know it's more trouble than it's worth....

but it you need a rockwell wet drill press and about 20 or so starlite core drills (1/8" to 5") let me know.. :p

Your opinion..Ive seen both glass and acrylic tanks fail..Its how it is made more than what it is made of ..Thanks but I drill my own glass.

What Eric said :) Acrylic may be stronger than glass for impact resistance, but acrylic seams blowing out happen more than most people think. (not that it is often, but most think acrylic are immune to any damage beyond scratching up)

reign, I have drills I want to sell, not use :p

If someone wanted to get into the glass hole making business, I have a turn key shop for sale...

But no, really the reason I want to stick with acrylic is because I have some more complex plumbing to do inside the tank, and some of it will require in-place drilling, which is MUCH easier on acrylic.

I will start to reconsider my design to fit a glass tank, but I'm not looking forward to it....

also, quick tech check if anyone can answer it.... the PSI of water against a sidewall is entirely depth dependent, right, not gallon related? So a point 12" from the top of a 10,000 gallon tank will have the same PSI as a point 12" down the wall of a 10g tank?

"complex plumbing" part sounds to me that you are going to need a pretty specific size of sump..SO why aren't you just making your acrylic sump? It would not really cost much and sounds like you have the experience to do so?
Just the impression I'm getting sorry ..
"but it you need a rockwell wet drill press and about 20 or so starlite core drills (1/8" to 5") let me know.. :p"
sorry sounded to me like a use type of thing..FS items on here are posted with a price..I don't need that many holes in glass.(cheap bits are $10).I'm picking up a press from my friend today..I guess a little misunderstanding..I just thought I offered to help a fellow reefer out with a used tank and some glass work if needed..;)

Oh the offer is deff. appreciated... if I can get Google Sketch to work I'll post up my plan.

The drill thing was more tongue in cheek, it's a $5000+ set up for professional glass drilling. large sintered diamond core bits are $300-500 each, and I have boxes full.

If anyone ever wanted to use it and knows how, I'd be happy to set it up tho, but if I had someone who knows how to use it I'd be more comfortable having them drill the holes.

As for building one myself ... lots of reasons I don't want to... I have the acrylic already cut, what I lack is space and time. Also, I don't mind making displays, I've done that and then some, but never anything water tight, I'm not sure i trust myself :p

...ok lemme get sketch working.

actually... while using sketch I just realized... glass may work after all. I can use flexible hose to connect the pump, that would minimize vibration, which was my main concern.

basically, I need a baffle with a hole in it, to fit a 2" PVC pipe from the outer end wall to the middle section of the sump... that pipe would be rigid and allow for a lot of torque on the end wall, but if it's attached to a flexible hose I wouldn't need to worry about it as much.

I dunno, I'll be thinking on this... damn silly sump/fuge design of mine.
