WTMRAC 2012 off to a great start!

Old School Reefer
On behalf of the WTMRAC officers I would like to thank all those club members and their friends and family that attended our New Year Party! It was great to see so many coral reefers together... I was glad I got a chance to chat with so many of you but with such a large group sorry I didn't get even more time to visit. Our club memberships are up... currently with 32 memberships... I hope we can keep the momentum going strong. Our next club event is our first 2012 bi-monthly meeting at the home tank of Richard and Lisa Rendos, Saturday February 25 at 6 pm. More details regarding location will be posted closer to the actual meet time. The topic for presentation will be LED lighting.... and will include the benefits to switching from your current light system to the new technology, what technology options are available, and suggestions on how to get your particular system up and going. Should be a great meeting and I predict it will be very well attended.

In the mean time, you've all got some homework to do for the club (thus spake the professor!). First off, I'd like to plan the entire year of bi-monthly club meetings before our February meeting, so we all know what to expect and can put these meetings on our calendar ASAP. We've now got February covered, and Lettie and I plan to host a Holiday Reef Party in December, so that leaves us with April, June, August and October. I'm looking for volunteers to host a meeting during each of these months. While each meeting will include a presentation topic, the host/hostess need not give the presentation, (although they are certainly welcomed to do so). Also, please submit topics that you would like to see presented in detail at our meetings. If you would like to give the presentation to the group, please indicate that as well.

Next assignment: we're currently searching for an affordable venue for our 2012 Frag Swap. The dates we were hoping (mid-April - early May, or September - November) are currently unavailable at our usual venue, the Agri Center. We're hoping to spend less than $1000 for a Friday evening to Saturday evening, and we require a space somewhere in the 2500 - 3000 square foot range. If you've got kids in school, check with your school to see if a cafeteria is available and for how much. Check with your church to see how much their fellowship hall might cost. Or if you have real estate contacts ask what is available.

And the last task for each of you: together with our webmaster Jay Page, I'd like each of us to help expand our "Club Members section" of the WTMRAC website. I would like to see a picture of each club member with their tank. Include a paragraph or two about yourself and your involvement in the reef hobby, close ups pics of your tank and livestock are welcome (and under the tank too... we all like to see each other's sumps!). If you have the technology to do so, even a short video would be great. We'll get started putting these on the website as soon as items start coming in. Send all pictures, texts and videos (or links to the pics and videos if you put them in Photobucket or on YouTube) to us at wtmrac@gmail.com.

That's all to report on and to request for now... until next time, Best Fishes!
