Xenia frag has taken over Zoanthus home.

At our last meeting at UCO,
I got a Zoanthus and Xenia frag. I got them home and acculmated. Then placed them on the frag grow out shelf up near the lights. Both are doing very well.
However, I've beem feeding them PhytoPlankton.
The Xenia frag looks to have doubled in size and produced new heads. The zoo has opened up quite abit and looks to have started to grow. Well the Xenia decided it like liked the Zoanthus rock better. It moved over on to the Zoanthus frag almost covering it. I have read that Xenia will sting other corals. How do i get it off my Zoanthus frag and onto it's own home? I don't want it to kill the Zoanthus. What should i do?

That sounds like it is doing great in your tank. Congratulations

Typical for Xenia. They grow and move like crazy

I have read that Xenia will sting other corals.

They are actually quite harmless to the touch. Probably one of the less potent corals out there. But, to make up for their lack of defense, they have an amazing offense; the ability to tolerate many powerful stings, and the speed of growth to grow over other sessile animals like corals.

Like Paul said, moving the Xenia is easier. If you can't get it to peel up off the base, you can always cut the stalks off as close to the rock as possible. Reattach the Xenia to your prefered area and then smear kalkwasser paste over the remains of the Xenia so it doesn't grow back.

Yes, They are doing good. My goal is to become a donor and give some frags. I'll move the Xenia off the zoo this evening. soon I will have a decent camera to take some pics of my current 40 gal and my 100 gal upgrade.

Thanks for the info Paul and Travis.
