Xenia issues - Lunar cycle oriented? Will they come back?

My xenia, which have been perfectly happy for awhile, appear to be dying. Someone at my LFS told me it had something to do with the lunar cycle and that they would be back. Is that true?

Anything I can do to help save them? My water params are fine. Tank has been a little on the warm side because of a problem heater, but that has been fixed.

Long as your water is fine and your lights are good it will come back. It seems to do this from time to time. Although your heat problem may have just ticked them off...it seems they take a while to recover from problems, but they always do recover.

that natural die off cycle LFS talk about..does not apply to reef tanks commony..if at all..the heat may have done the damage..

They also seem sensitive to pH, so you may want to check that.

I've had success with moving them to a different area of the tank when this happens. Haven't lost one yet, but have been close! LOL They are bizarre little creatures.

Of course, there are many who WANT their xenia dead and can't rid themselves of it. :)

they're right. xenia among other softies will be a good indicator of your levels being off but if everything is cool than true, xenias will from time to time look like that. in my case they were ugly for a week and then came back to life double their original size. just don't be quick to lose all hope, they really are amazing corals. I can't wait for mine to become a nuisance.....maybe i could finally make a few bucks off this hobby with frags!!!!!!

Lunar cycle.....thats awesome advice.

How hot did your tank get.

Sir Dude could be right about them being ticked off....

They are strange corals that no one has been able to figure out yet.

There is one major study going on right now--and its scientific--to try to figure these guys out.

Nothing that is said here on Reef Central is really wrong, but than again none of it is right either as far as some of the advice you will get.

Lunar cycles have nothing to do with how well your xenia is doing. it is probably water quality or light related.

about two months ago i had the same thing happen to an exploding colony of xenia. just one day they shriviled up one by one, and in a month they were gone, im still waiting for them to come back if ever.

I won't ship but if you are in my area (Seacoast NH) I have some Xenia you can have. Over the years I have noticed ph and sg to be the biggest factors with my Xenia.
