xenia on sand

I was able to pick up a couple xenia frags, pom pom & silver branch, yesterday (got them for free--best part). I placed them on the sand next to a piece of rubble so they grow onto that and are somewhat contained. I don't want a tank of xenia. Do you think they will do okay under standard 12 gal nanocube dx lighting, being on the sand. If not does anyone have any isolation tips for xenia if I need to move them up?

Also, what kind of current do they like? I have a maxijet 600 with a hydro on it and everytime the flow is directed towards them they get blown pretty good. Obviously it is a variable current, but is that too much flow for them. They really do not seem to be opening all that much thats why I ask.

Thanks :)

Xenia tend to favor a fairly low flow. I had mine placed in moderate flow and it moved itself to an area w/ lower flow and is much happier in its new location.

Can't help you w/ the lighting as I don't know about the NC deluxe's lighting scheme.

Xenia will take a couple of days after being moved to look their best.

It will move, typically toward the light which means it'll eventually migrate to the highest available point in the tank. So what you need to do is control where it climbs. Putting rubble in front of it allows you to control where it grows and easily harvest excess.

I have a 12 gallon DX I bought from previous owner 1 month ago. Pulsing Xenia growing like weeds. They seem fine with lighting whereever they are in tank. Given how proliic they are, I am trying a strategy of xenia in the latter back part of tank, which is where the reef climbs up against the back wall. The front half of tank is for the other corals
