Xenia owners.

has anyone tried feeding phyto? mine close up but still have a small pulse as if it were catching and eating or am i just seeing things?

I have tried feeding mine both phytoplankton and rotifers. I haven't seen it eat yet.

I definitely noticed an increase in the growth and in the pulsing when I upgraded my primary lights from T-8's to T-5's. I am now at approximately 5 watts per gallon and my xenia is happy. I hope it doesn't take over my tank.

i am going to try and get a head of xenia today from my lfs i have a torch coral and want some more movement and i think xenia will be my ticket! wish me luck ive got decent light so hopefully it wont go crazy on me.

Really high nitrates, ph 7.8, sg 1.023, didn't test for anything else. Temp swings from 72-78 daily. Grew like a weed and I will not put it in the next tank.

At this point it was pretty much under control, at times it was way worse. I used to siphon out close to a hundred stalks every water change (which was maybe once a month.)

The back wall during a water change. They didn't mind being out of water. I even had a frag basket that had zenia on it. I took it out of the tank, crudely scraped the zenia off it. I left it out of the tank and two days later put it back into the tank only to have the minute remains of zenia still stuck to it start growing again.

What kind of xenia are you looking for and where are you located?

Well, I've got mine growing under PC lighting. I noticed since I started dosing Pickling lime in my top off water, some of the colonies closed up and bleached. Other colonies are thriving. so, I don't know if some are sensitive to kalk or just the water chemistry changes that kalk introduces. (fluctuations in PH and alk, and so on). Some colonies are dieing off completely, others are thriving, the good thing is that since dosing kalk, they seem to have halted their reproduction advance on my tank. What I have is just perfect. It was growing new colonies on a daily basis. It has since stopped growing new ones.

Xenia thrives good in my tank. I just fraged some off a live rock a week ago and when I looked at the remaining gooey branch where I cut it off I started to see realy small xenia heads. I was like ***? "Life will find a way"
