About 6 months ago I let my Xenia grow onto my main rock and now it's getting out of hand. I tried to siphon it out this morning during my water change with no luck.
Just pull them off of the rock carefully. You'll want to get as much of it as possible if it's a problem. If you like the xenia, Isolate it on a single rock in the middle of your sand bed or something.
Use the tip of a razor blade or x-acto knife to get under the base, they will peel right off. If you have a fuge throw them in there...read somewhere they are great in that application.
I have a question about xenia I hope is appropriate for this thread.
I have a small colony that has split from a frag that I got from a LFS. It seems to be doing well with one exception. There are times when one or another of the stalks will pull in tightly from the water, kind of like a ball of little fists. There will be maybe one or two fingers out or there may be none at all.
I have tried to see if it is related to time of day, hours under the lights, fish feeding, water temp, etc. but I can't seem to make any correlation.
They seem to recover ok after about an hour so there is no major panic. I'd just like to know if this is normal behaviour and if so what the heck are they doing?

yeah my xenia got out of control and i couldn't sell it fast enough so i have a 12g xenia tank now with a bunch of frags in it. nobody seems to want to pay for it but as soon as someone posts free xenia frags everyone jumps all over it. i don't get it???
