Xenia, xenia, & more xenia!!!

This is not my tank or anyone I know's tank...I just happened to come across this accidentally at the following website and had never seen such a tank...it's all xenia and I just thought some folks would like to see this. Just amazing in my opinion.

Would like to give credit to the website where I found this: http://www.fishmanservice.com/gallery.html

200 gallon reef with incredible growth of Xenia polyps:

ENJOY!!!

I'm afraid that's what my tank will look like soon if I don't get a handle on those little #@!#$@%!. They're like dandelions in my yard!;)

can you believe there is a shop in my area that has a little rock with a couple stalks of zenia on it for sale for $75.....wooo haaaa.
zenia is cool, but that is incredible.

Xenia is pretty expensive here...I can't imagine what that tank could be worth if they'd frag it all out and even just sell each piece fo $1...they'd totally make out.

"That water must be polished like a mo-fo :-)"

my xenia actually seems to prefer dirty water

I think (now this can be dangerous) he meant that the xenia was polishing the water. Some people believe that Xenia is great for exporting excess nutrients in the water.

Precisely :-)

Holy Xenia Batman!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL If it were me i would start fraging that stuff and sellling it to my LFS for store credit. Good Luck and cool pics............

Wow, that does look pretty cool. Now I'm not so sure about trimming back my anthelia colony thats starting to spread.

In my area, you can't even give Xenia away. Everyone seems wary of it.

According to an article in MARINE FISH magazine 2005 annual (pg 11), xenia will remove ammonia 5X more effectively than Caulerpra. When it "buds" rip it off & throw it away. I'd guess that you have lots of fish providing "food" for it. Good luck eradicating it.

There has been recent interest and discussion about XENIA based refugia and export cultures. Anthony Calfo is one of the folks behind some of this. I had (and may) do just that. My xenia comes and goes, but at times becomes a large nuisance. I can not make up my mind one way or the other, pest or pet.
