xenia xenia xenia...

My xenia love to creep from the front of the tank to the back and up the wall. Hands will occassionally fall off and land and grow where they land. Every once in a while, I go in with forceps an pull them off the glass and the front rocks. Within a month, they'll be all over the back glass again.

I don't dose, I change water irregularly, and keep the temp between 76 and 80F.

As said before, xenia are hit and miss. Who knows why they do well for some and not so well for others. I'd encourage you to keep trying though. They are mesmerizing to watch!

oh ok, i think its a hit or miss. this frag that i have now is small, its only 1 inch tall, but its splitting im having more areas with it...

is that xenia on the top left part of the tank?

that looks really big... with long arms

what is the height on that tank?

Yep, xenia in the back. you see the arms because it gets a bit of current on it.

There's also Kenya tree back there on the rock.

I'll have to measure the tank when I get home.

Good point, love'em, you've got xenia on the left of yours too. Looks like a different type. Are they silver?

love'em - I'm not sure what you are referring to for anemone's - I don't have any. My clowns hang out in toadstool leathers. :)

Mine are mostly pulsating xenia. I didnt realize that they were leathers, very cool, Ive been wanting one like that for a while. I thought they were carpet anemones. How long did it take them to get that big? Oh ya also my tank is a regular sized 75 gallon about 22 inches tall. The xenia is very tall, about 8 or 9 inches.

I disagree with all who've suggested temperature has anything to do with it. I've successfully kept various types of xenia with normal tank temperatures ranging from 80 - 84 degrees F.

I agree skipper, my tank usually stays at 78-80, but it will get up to 84-85 sometimes in the summer because I dont have a chiller, and never had my xenia stop growing.

My xenia grow like weeds taking over an entire corner or my 90g tank. 80-81 deg. large water changers monthly. Kalk or reef advantage/reef builder to the makeup wate, carbon and phosguard run continuosly. Alternating indirect flow 660w vho and continous skimming. every few months i have to split the colonys and take to the LFS.

My Xenia has taken over half of a 220 gallon tank. It seems to be spreading daily. Any ideas on how to thin it out and slow it down?

My pulsing xenia seems to melt away somewhat during temp. spikes.

Also, the growth slows significantly after water changes. That leads me to believe that it likes dirty water! I use the stuff as a water change indicator. :D

Oh yeah... it also tends to accumulate around my overflows where most of the nutrients pass by. Could be the nutrients or it likes more light.

i have them growing inside a basket... the moment i opened the basket... here comes my big fat damsel eating away... had to close it again... may it grow once more

Just reach in with forceps and start weeding! If you are gentle but firm, they peel off the rocks/glass. If you leave a part of it behind, it will re-grow in about 2 weeks, but it'll be much smaller :)

yey! mine are growing and finally pulsing! hahaha! at last!

after dosing... close to 300ml of vodka already in 3 weeks or so...
