If you trim Xenia and don't discard it you run the (very high) risk of starting new Xenia colonies elsewhere in your aquarium. If you want to eliminate Xenia from a spot in your aquarium simply trim (or nuke with kalk paste) small patches at a time and scrub the area clean with a toothbrush.
Don't kill large patches of Xenia all at once or the level of toxins in your aquarium could become detrimental to other livestock.
You might also set rubble on top of the problem Xenia and it will grow onto it. (This is a prop technique). Certain Xenia colonies can be peeled up from the point of attachment with fingernails or a sharp blade.
