Well here it is Christmas Eve at 10:30 at night and guess what just happened? My power flickered off and in the process has taken out my pump on my coralife SS. Now here i sit with no pump and no way to buy one tomorrow cause everyone will be closed. What are the pumps that come on them? Rios? Thats what i was thinking anyway. Anyone got one laying around that they want to sell or a compatible needlewheel pump that would work? I will actually be by troy Il tomorrow and if someone was not tied up with family and had one i would come take it off your hands. I have to leave at 3am tues morning to go to work 150 miles away so that screws me for getting one on tues morning when things open up. Oh and i wont be home till thursday!
Man what luck i have..... Perfect timing!!!
I would also be interested in a whole skimmer possibly if it was a good one and the price was right. I use my SS insump right now so i DONT want a hangon type. Let me know and MERRY XMAS to all!

If I am not mistaken, a skimmer is not a requirement on a tank. I could be wrong, but your tank should be fine for a couple of days without a skimmer. Some people do not even run a Skimmer. My 24 Nano Cube has no skimmer and it does fantastic.

Someone else will probably chime in, but I think you would be ok to wait until you get back to fix the skimmer.

I believe you are correct but once we left for 4 days and i cleaned the skimmer cup out right before we left and somehow i forgot to plug it back in and when we returned and i tested the water my nitrates were thru the roof compared to 0 before we left and it took me what seemed like forever to get them back down. Now maybe that wasnt what caused it but i attributed it to the skimmer being off and maybe i was wrong. Guess im just paranoid now.

there are only 2 things need for an aquarium filteration, skimmer and live rock i've seen many tanks with that setup.

You dont need a skimmer for a few days. Relax even though I know that hard when your tank has issues.

Merry Christmas and I hope it all works out for you

i do have a rio 1400 sitting around but i think your suppose to have 600 to 700 gph for that skimmer i think

I agree. You'll be just fine without a skimmer. Enjoy your Christmas and don't worry about it.

You don't need the skimmer and shouldn't have any problems. Do a water change or 2 if it makes you feel better (it's not going to hurt anyways) and order a new pump on Tuesday from Premium Aquatics. You'll have it Wed. with ground shipping.

Hows the tank doing? I would have to agree you do not need the skimmer. Great help with keeping it clean, but it will do fine with out it for a couple days.

probably fine but i wont be back to the house till thursday at the earliest. I got my fingers crossed and hoping for the best.
