I had gotten this picture on my phone and only got around to transferring it to the computer now. Look at the bucket for comparison. :)

luke33- tech question-since it would seem that i have my pump running well, ive noticed that about every 1 hour or 2 hours i have to lower my water level. is this because the pump is picking up velocity.

bleedingthought- are your pumps still on a slant?
The one that faces the outside of the sump is almost upright. The other one is completely horizontal (so, not upright at all). :)

The 300 looks way more impressive in person. :D
That's an understatement. I haven't had a single person come over that didn't say, "Holy ****! That thing's crazy!"

Now if we could all quit playin with the mesh and let them break in properly. We could show off the nog too. I want to see some crazy good nog. Who's got some besides luke?

I'm sure its here somewhere, but everytime I try to search, to engine is busy!!
Just got my MSX-200. Since the directions are a little lacking, where's this mesh that came with the unit go?
Also, I've had it running for a day now, and it's not pulling out that lovely mung that I keep seeing pics of just hours after installation. I'm only getting the light brown watery stuff if I skim a little wet. Is that standard?
thanks

andyman.........give it week bud or two for it to really break in. If its pulling anything after a day thats amazing!

sirjustis, reason your having to lower your water is because your mesh is breaking in and starting to pull more air.....like I said earlier : )

Cweder, thanks for not asking me for nog shots : ) Although my cup is sickness right now!

andy, be glad you got the mesh. Its a free bonus, for when you have to redo it. Which shouldnt be needed for quite a while. I would leave it as is and let it break in. If you can just let it run without tinkering with it you should be skimming well after 14 to 17 days. Thats how long the biofilm takes. It should continue to improve from there up to 2 months. Then you should have skimmate like luke.

Well after doing my research for over a month now I have just placed an order for the MSX300 at Marine Solutions. Thank you Luke for the info and thank you Bleedingthought for your picture of a 5 gallon bucket dwarfed by this monster skimmer (the picture helped me pull the trigger).

Now I get to play the waiting game and prey that the 2 month wait time due to backorder goes by as stated. I'm impatient so this was a big step for me to order this skimmer with such a long backorder

Hey Guys, Newbie with some newbie questions :) Finally dropped my new MSX200 into a rubbermaid full of tank water from a water change last night to break in. Few questions...

- When first fired it up, there was a lot of rattling which went away within 5-10 minutes. From what i have read this is normal. Would this happen every time the pump is started? Or just when it is brand new?

- Have had it running over night and the noise level of the pump seems to have come down but still a bit louder than I thought it would be. Saw a few posts on this. Does the pump continue to get quieter as it breaks in? Or is this it? I thought these were suppossed to be pretty silent. Anything I can do to make it quieter?

- I need to raise it about 3-4 inches in order to get it sitting in 8-9" of water. I was planning on building a box out of egg crate and putting something above and below it for vibration dampening. I was thinking some of those silcone oven mits/pads? Does anyone have any better suggestions on doing this?

Thanks!
Will
