Yasha Hase Goby Problem

I am fairly new to the hobby. I have had a 12g nano set up for just over a year. I currently have 2 nano clowns, no more than 1" long each, a randali's pistol shrimp, a yasha hase goby, and a sixline wrasse about 2-3" long. The goby has been living with the shrimp and when I got home from work today the goby was laying in the sand across the tank. He does not look well. His jaw is open wide and his gills look inflamed. Every time he tries to swim he seems disoriented and eventually lays back in the sand. He is breathing but not like normal. I am hoping for anyone's advice on what could have caused this and what to do. Should I wait and see if it will get better or is it better to remove him from the tank and know that it was for the better? Any advice is greatly appreciated. All the other fish in the tank are swimming around just fine. I just heard the shrimp clicking so I know he is still in there. I haven't changed anything in the tank either. Just the usual routine. Thank you so much for your help!

He was eating just fine. He is not skinny. I feed him a homemade fish food my sister makes. It contains both cyclopeeze and mysis. He would eat like a pig. I did try to feed the tank when I get home. He usually swims right up to the baster and eats from it, so I tried to feed him directly but he wouldn't move. Shortly after I posted this he began to freak out and swim in spirals. I do not know what is wrong but it does not look good.

How long has the Yashia been in the tank?

You have quite a bit of bio-load in that tank....have you been keeping up with maintenance? Notice any aggression from the other fish?

Might be too late to help your goby but might be able to help keep it from happening again.

I had the goby about 2 months. The wrasse was just added Monday night. It is temporary until the bigger tank is ready to add everything. We do a 10% water change every week as well as regular top offs. I have not seen any aggression from any of the fish. Everyone seems to be swimming together happily. I can't find the goby anymore. I unfortunately think he didn't make it and between the crabs and bristle worms he is gone.

A six line in a 12 gallon is a bull in a china shop. They get NASTY to other fish. I wouldnt doubt AT ALL that he has beaten the tar out of the yasha.

I agree!!

I've had a yasha haze in a ten for three years--very docile fish which should not be kept in a tank with bigger more aggresive fish, IMHO. I'd remove and QT if you can, they are resilient--at least give it a chance without disrupting your DT
