Yay! Finally!

Just observed my smaller ocellaris (got from Kathy at the frag swap) finally touched the tentacles on one of my RBTA's. I have had my other ocellaris (from Inland Aquatics) for over a year and a half now and the only thing he's hosted before was frogspawn. Hoping the one hanging with the anemone will encourage the older one to do the same. I was beginning to think this was never going to happen. Guess I shouldn't be too up just yet, as neither is actually rolling around in the anemone yet, but even finally touching it is a big deal with me. :D

It's just a matter of time now. They may continue to use their current hosts part time and the anemone part time. If the current host and the anemone are close together, move the current host farter away from the anemone once they get comfortable with the anemone. It may force them to choose.

yay for you!
my maroon just started hosting in a hairy mushroom. :) it's funny to see him wiggle around

LOL...thanks, but that has been a problem too, they don't have another host! My older one hosted frogspawn in my former 26 gal tank, but as soon as I moved everything into the 120, he has been a free swimmer ever since. Hasn't hosted anything. Stuffs himself between candy cane heads at night, that's it. Otherwise he's just all over the place. Probably doesn't help either that there are two RBTA's close to each other. The larger clown seems to prefer hovering over the smaller anemone though.

Here's a pic I just took of the two of them trying to figure out where to set up shop:

They may just bounce back and forth between the two anemones. We had a maroon clown that used to travel between three anemones in the tank. Why choose one when you can have all of them?

Looked in there last night to see just the tail of the smaller clownfish sticking out of the center of the anemone. :eek1: OMG, the anemone is eating my clown! Then the clown popped up out of there like no big deal.

Kind of reminded me of a little kid trying to learn how to go underwater for the first time and they just kind of stick their face in the water a little bit at first. Put their face in just past their goggles and then pop up exclaiming, "I did it! I did it!"

Very cute! Nice to see my/your fish all grown up! Thanks for the picture.

And thanks for the post. There is a myth going around that captive bred fish will not readily host anemones. It is nice to have some evidence to disprove the myth. Captive bred fish rock!
