Yellow Assesor, wild caught or captive bred?

o2manyfish, how long have the 5 ORA assessors been in your tank? Have you seen any change in the color?

Thanks for all the input everyone.

GoldenEyeRet,

I am not sure exactly. I got them since the crash last fall. I got them early in the restocking. So perhaps last November or January.

Thanks Dave. It seems the ORA are typically less colorful, but I read mixed reports on how much, if any, they will color up.

It seems more people experience little to no color improvement. Right now I am leaning WC even though I believe in buying CB as a general rule.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed.

I can't find any good pictures of my ORA YA, but its colors definitely more closely resemble the WC picture vs. the CB picture. I still vote CB.

I wanted to give an update for anyone that may search this topic.

I went with a captive bred Yellow Assessor. An ORA fish from Divers Den.

I am very happy with my decision so far. It has only been a few days and he is obviously still in QT but his color is far better that I had feared. The yellow is only slightly more dull and the colored edges only a little less vibrant than the wild caught ones I have had in the past.

The great behavior more than makes up for the slight color loss. This fish has been very active from the instant he went into my QT tank. No hiding, no shyness-- nothing. He is like a puppy begging for treats any time I am anywhere near the tank. His swimming is comical. He swims upside down and sideways all the time, and seems to be having fun and playing when he does. My wild caught assessors would swim like this, but not as much and they were nowhere near as comfortable out in the open.

So far I am very happy with my captive bred Assessor and would recommend that option to anyone trying to decide.

Thanks for all the input RC, You are awesome!
