yellow cardinalfish

Hello, I am returning to the hobby more aggressively now. I haven't been active on the forums lately.

I am starting a new 29g.
I have it filled, rocked, and running.

I remember some time back there was a TOTM that had Yelloe Cardinalfish. I was wondering if anyone knew more about them, where to get them, and if they are suitable for a 29.

Hey Pat, were you referring to my TOTM in September of '04? I kept Apogon cyanosoma, and they played together fine as juveniles in my 65 gallon. Despite the upgrade to my 180 gallon, when they began to mature and breed the aggression was unending to the point of death. You may want to consider another species... I witnessed these in the wild diving in Micronesia and have some excellent images I could post tomorrow as they are on my work laptop...

Eek, that sounds like more trouble than I can handle. Are any of them still alive?

Can you recommend another species that would be fitting for a 29? (something else small and yellow maybe?)
I have looked at the Blackmouth Bicolor Chromis (Neoglyphidodon nigroris) with some interest as well.

I would love to see pictures if you could post them!

Hey Pat... here's a shot I dug up of part of my old group...


Here are two photos I snapped in the Marianas Islands Micronesia of Apogon cyanosoma... there are lots of variability in this species. I recommend all three current volumes of Scott Michael's reef fishes books, and in Volume two he has a seperate section dedicated to this species that talks about its variability. A great series!



Regarding something small and yellow, how about a couple of Halichoeres chrysus wrasses? These guys are sometimes mistakenly called "yellow coris wrasse", although they are not in the Coris genus and stay small at around 4 inches... they are inexpensive and get along well with eachother... just a thought... here's a shot of one...
