yellow eyed kole tang died...why?

Off topic; is the stock list at the bottom of your posts current? I'm not a shark person; but I can't imagine any shark with your small, bottom dwelling fish. I assume your clowns are all juvis. Mature clowns will not tolerate clowns of any other species in the same tan. Your maroon clown will almost certainly become a female and a big female MC is the most territorial fish I know of. When this MC sexually matures, she will probably kill all the other clowns in the tank (not an exaggeration). She will also torment other fish and make life miserable for new ones. Also, are you using a QT with new fish?

The maroon clown is by itself in 46 bowfront tank with a Coral Beauty and a couple gobies

In my 125 I have 4 clowns (2 saddlebacks and 2 ocelaris). They are probably around 2 inches each.

There are no bottom dwelling fish in that tank either. Only thing on the bottom with the shark are crabs, snails and conches. The shark leaves them all alone and the cleaner shrimp is usually posted right next to the shark or even on top of the shark cleaning away. All the fish quickly realized that when the lights go off in the tank to go and hide in their spots because thats when the shark comes out. I'm really attentive with the shark and I feel like its dang near trained to know when its feeding time and it goes to a specific cave for easy feeding access. If I ever see it getting the urge to go for a cruise then I immediately feed it. On the nights that I dont feed it I make sure to turn on the moonlight on the side where the clownsfish sleep because if lights are on then it stays put in its cave. I'm sure you've experienced how they all bob up in the top of the tank like sitting ducks. Cant wait til my 300 gallon is set up in a few months so I dont have to worry about that issue and the shark will be by itself

So you are using the cpr cy194...
You took out bioballs, thats a good start.

Are you still using the diffuser plate at the top of the overflow?
Take it out if you are because it will oxygenate the live rock you added and defeat the purpose.
you just want it to overflow in one big drop/flow, and it will make it quieter also.
By literally replacing the biobal with liverock that is the same as still having the bioballs, you want that rock under water and not exposed to air.
Take the diffusers and eggcrate out, and let all that rock sit on the botoom under water, trust me.

I use the same sump for now but its being replaced by a lower and bigger footprint sump.
On the plus side, the cheapo skimmer in it works fairly well, I get lots of thick chunky buildup around the top of the cups overflow, but Ill tell you that a catalina 1800 runs the skimmer 10x better than the rio does...

Yah biobale is out. And no didn't take eggcrate and difuser out. I have been trying to keep the thing super full of water to keep the rock submerged but I'm going to do what you said. I like the system but the rios heat up my tank and its so frustrating. I have a rio 2100 for skimmer and a rio 12hf for return. I'm not sure which one the culprit is but I'm assuming its the return pump.

If you have any suggestions on pumps id love to hear em because I'm getting to the point where I'm going to buy a chiller. My temp was 83 today which is the highest its ever been and that makes me nervous for summer time and I don't want my temperature varying so much. I have my heaters in the return area next to the pump and they barely ever come on because the pumps heat up the water so much.

Are there any internal pumps that won't heat up the tank? Or should I just get a chiller? Ill spend whatever it takes and time isn't on my side with the heat coming so I gotta act fast

I didn't realize you had 2 separate tanks. Other than the coral catshark size issue, the other 12 fish shouldn't be too many for the 125.

Yah the cat shark size issue is a concern for me so I went and dropped $1000 on a 300 gallon from CL. But its a few months from being ready to go because its gonan take me 2 or 3 commission checks to have stand/cabinets built, plumbing installed and support/construction done to the area to install it.

I always wanted a shark and I originally bought my 125 just so I could have a blue tang (have 2 small kids so wanted as much from nemo as possible) then while at my LFS I noticed they had a banded cat shark and I asked about it. The guy said I could easily have one in my 125 and after it cycled he could get me one and it'd be fine with all my fish. I was so stoked like a kid on xmas eve and 6 weeks later I took my water in, he got me a shark. I did some research and found a lot of people said 125 could handle it. But then others said 300 is recommended so I asked LFS and he said online people didn't know what they were talking about so I shrugged it off. 2 months later I can see what all the online people meant when saying 300 is reccommended. I take extra good care of my shark and love it to death and it eats and breathes regulalry but I really wished it had more room to swim freely without rocks in its way. I did the best I could arranging the rock to maximize swimming room but its obvious it would like more room to thrive and not just survive so I went and got the 300 gallon tank specifically for it.

So ill have 4 tanks (my fiance has her own angler fish project in some bamboo hut 30 gallon tank, she's crazy) in my living room all in less than a year...my friends think I'm nuts...and I'm starting to think they are right lol

yeah, thats a problem with these sumps, imo.
They are so compact there is not much surface are for evap/cooling.

I myself use an external pump.
I actually have one I could sell if you so inclined, it should run a 125 no problem, and should also run the 300 when you get it going...

In response to your pm, ask away anytime, love to help.
You could always come checkout my setup if you like for ideas, Im in downtown...
