yellow jacket coloration

i got a few polyps of yellow jackets and i am just wondering how to keep the yellow and black coloration on them. mine seem to be getting lighter and lighter. those of you who have them please give input. thanks

i have mine about 14" bellow my 150w hqi for 8 hrs a day. they keep a constant deep purple with bright yellow speckels
