yellow longnose butterflies?

I've had my Long Nose Butterfly for several years now. I just moved him into a newly setup 270 gallon tank that has a few SPS frags in it. He was a model citizen in my 125 tank that had a variety of soft corals including Xenia, Xoanthids, Leathers and ricordia. Its been about two months now and he's been fine with the SPS as well.

I've got a few (bad) pictures of him in my gallery.

A great fish in my opinion that needs extra care to make sure he's getting enough to eat long term as he's easily outcompeted by more agressive fish over time.

so uve had success with that feeding tube? that things pretty cool. My other candidate was actually the majestic too, looks like u got it all in there.

what do u think about have 2? u think theyd fight?

btw u have very nice tanks.

I just got one about a week ago, and I have removed him because he liked to nibble at my clams mantle and open brain. but didn't bother anything else.

I've had one for almost a year with SPS and no problems. Unfortunately, I just add my first clam and he started nipping. He is getting out of the tank. Same thing with my flame angel. He didn't touch the SPS but he seems to like my clam. They are going to be replaced by Anthias.

Acro_man,

Yeah, the tube allows the butterfly to get first crack at the food. Of course everyone else gathers around and gets the remnants. The butterfly taught the majestic how to eat in captivity and he still follows the butterfly around the tank like a puppy hoping he'll stir up something good to eat.

As for keeping more than one in a tank. I imagine someone has done it but I've never heard of anyone doing it and all the written materials I've seen say one per tank. I've been tempted to try a copperband with him but I've got a fairly aggresive Purple Tang in the tank who would almost certainly cause him trouble even if he didn't quarrel with the long nose.

I've never had a clam but I have seen him intently peaking under snail shells like he'd really like to take a nip. Never done any damage to them though.

well i actually dont plan on keeping any clams and it seems like everyone pretty much has had problems with them together. so i guess now my only objective is to research whether or not i can have more than one.

thanks for the replies

well ive done some reading and some places say that they mate for life. so im gonna look into finding a mated pair.

hey dakota how often do u feed the butterfly? i know u have some other bigger fish in there that u have to keep up w/ a strict feeding schedule im sure, but if u had to just feed the butterfly how often do u think?
