well my current list consist of

eel
falco hawkfish
flame angel
shy hamlet.

I have never really had luck with tangs but in the past my lack of knowledge and research is the reason they died. I threw them in tanks WAY to small and not very established.

I know a 90 is 4' only but want to see what others think or have. I really would like the purple..def my favorite tang and he is going with a crew of fish that won't allow to be punked around either. tank has been established for 1.5 years.

Tia,

I have a 75g with a yellow tank, hippo tang, and brown tang. They all get along great and seem to have plenty of room to swim around and hide.

I never had a purple tang but have heard they are very aggresive and should only be housed in an aquarium where it is the only tang. Just my .02

My purple tang is in a 210 gallon with a Naso tang (moving shortly to a new 450 gallong) and a Kole tang.

The purple tang is 5 years old, the Naso is 5 years old and the Kole is almost 12 years old (just lost him tonight - very sad). But they were all living happily together for the past 4 years.

Well 2 of you own 6' tanks. Matthew how long and how big are your tangs?

This will be my last fish added being that I am pushing my bioload. I love the purple and I definitely need a more aggressive tang. I tried a mimic and that didn't quite workout between my eel and him. I need a fish with attitude and I definitely think a purple is the way to go.

I like yellows but not nearly close to a purple.
Any more folks who gt any input please provide.

I've got a Yellow in a 90 doing fine. He can be very aggressive toward newcomers, but usually settles down after a few days.

BTW, there is no such thing as a "last fish" :D

My tank is a 90 after my wipe out the purple was the only fish for about a moth after that I have added 7 fish including a blue tang with just normal aggression, I followed the tip of placing a mirror so the purple tang would get distracted, just get the purple Deep Reef has a great deal on them.

I had a yellow in my 55g for over a year before I got rid of it due to aggression. Last year when I set up my 95G i got a tiny Purple tang and within 2 months, he almost doubled in size (about 2") and was starting to get very territorial towards my other fish. Now I have a Chevron and a Yellow belly hippo in there. These 2 seem pretty passive compared to the yellow and Purple! If you really want one of them, make sure it is your last fish.

Fish2reef, that is a great idea! I'll have to try that next time I add a fish!

The idea was passed on to me by Julio Perez and it works, I bought a cheap mirror at the dollar store trashed the frame and taped the mirror to the glass facing in, the tang is preoccupied by its own reflection giving the new fish room to breathe.

Damn..thanks for all the replies guys.

Illal. I actually prefer the agression...My eel has never taken well to fish who can't fend for themselves.

I tried a leopard wrasse, and a mimic tang.. both of which are more peaceful and my eel immediately began to harass them and one had to be returned, the other died in 2 days. and he is the last fish... I don't like to push my luck on the bioload...my eel has enough of an effect on that along with my corals.

I had my purple tang in a 90 gallon for 2 years, and he did just fine. Now he's in my 180 with a hippo tang, and the two of them get along great, even when they are at the nori clip! Besides, I understand that as a general rule, the zebrasoma (disc-shaped) tangs are much more forgiving than most other tangs when it comes to room.

My purple tang is definitely one of the top fish in my tank, but he's not aggressive to anyone new. But he sure does know how to stand his ground! If anything, he's more of a peacekeeper...if two of the other fish start getting aggressive with one another, he will literally get in between them with his dorsal fin up and break them up!

I say go for it, Nick!

That little flame is a real p i s s e r, isn't he?!

I figured my 36 was just too small for him...glad to see he's holding his own in your setup!

And yes, once the purple tang is established, he will definitely keep him in check!

hey the guy from 57 and flagler had some very nice purple tang for like $45...........if i was u I try bout, just add then in the same time u should be ok good luck
