Yellow Pyramid Butterfly source: Indonesia vs. Hawaii

No idea about YPBs in particular, but fish collected in Hawaii are usually extremely well taken care of relative to other areas of collection.

Yes I've read the same about Hawaii. Do you know anything about fish collection in Indonesia? Live Aquaria sells them from both regions and wondering if it matters where I buy from

The transit time and handling practices are far better from Hawaii than indo. Its a long ways from indo, and pyramids are rather sensitive.

That's good info. Thanks. Generally speaking, how do Indonesia collection practices compare to the Philippines?

hit or miss really. There are so very good companies there. But in order for Indo to do what they do the fish are cleaned out for 3-10 days with no feedings so they can pack them very tight in a box (75+ damsels, etc) so for a pyramid to be put in a 9" bag because they have to make sure the other fish can fit in there, after it hasn't eaten in a week, it causes some stress issues. I bag all 3-5" pyramids in a 14" bag, no matter where they are going. Butterflies in general are sensitive to water quality changes, O2 levels etc, so can't go wrong with a bigger bag!

Even if it was collected properly in indo (which should be the case) by the time it gets to you 2 weeks later, it is skinny, stressed, and ready to give up. Unless the wholesaler in between feeds and holds it for a little while, they are usually doomed from Indo/Philippines. If its on the divers den section, i would bet its a pretty solid fish though.
