I just noticed today my yellow tang has these cracks around his head and eyes...
Eating and swimming fine, all other fish look fine. Corals are fine. What is this and how can I help him??

Tank stats: 90 gallon reef tank

Fish are fed mysis shrimp, formula 2 flake and seaweed sheets.

Temp is 75 to 78 degrees with lights off/on.

Tankmates: niger trigger, humu trigger, 2 oscellaris clowns, melanurus wrasse.

I dont see any signs of bullying from any fish ever. I believe I have found this to be HLLE from a google search. Can someone confirm?

i bought my purple tank in rough shape after the previous owner neglected it and it had similar erosion. to remedy it you just have to feed it a varied diet (mysis, nls and nori worked for me), and keep everything as stable as possible while it recovers and beyond.

Ok... I have been feeding him exactly that and I am 99% sure he didnt have this when I bought him. Only thing that has changed in the tank is the addition of activated carbon. I only added because my skimmer was going crazy from glueing corals. I am going to remove the carbon and feed a little more to see if that helps.

Just for information purposes, what activated carbon are you using?

It was marineland black diamond activated carbon... stuff if super fine got it on amazon. I really feel like this is what did it because this popped up just a few days after adding it. I was already feeding the tang exactly what everyone suggested and I know my waters good I have lps sps and soft corals all of which are fine. Water changes done every week.

That is precisely the carbon I've seen some others linking to HLLE.
You don't want the light and fibrous carbon but rather the heavy pellets.

Yeah that was my mistake hard to tell what I was getting off a picture on amazon. Should have researched more first. As soon as I opened it up I new thats not what I wanted.
