Yellow Tang diagnosis

I added 3 yellow tangs to my tank about 3weeks ago and they have been eating and swiming well. However, a few days ago when I turned I my actinic(sp?) blue lights I noticed that one of the tqangs has a bright white strip across the middle of his body which doesn't appear when the regular lights are turned on? Any idea what my cause this?

Also another one othe tans has a white growth on his rear fin. It is not a speck like ICH. He is swimming fine and the fin is full and intact. Is this some sort of parasite?

The stipe on your tang is normal. It is part of the markings on their side. Also, yellow tangs turn a very pale white after the lights go out during the night. The won't fully color back up until the day lights turn on. Totally normal, wouldn't worry.

agreed, but get rid of that nitrite. How long has it been set up? If you got nitrite, it might not have fully cycled, since both amonia and nitrite need to be 0 to be considered cycled.
and is this the 175g tank? Just curious.

Sir dude, yes this is my 175 tank and the tank has been up since August 1, 2006. From day 1 the nitrite was 0( I started with 200 pounds of LR) but last week the nitrites juped up to .1. I haven't changed the water in 2 weeks(waiting for a replacement part on my RODI unit) so that could be the cause.

White strip is normal on the tang, the thing on the fin, is it right where the fin meets the body? This is white and would be the scalpel type thing, where they get their name surgeonfish. This is like a razor basically.
