Yellow Tang Dorsal fin damage? Deterioration?

Hello. Any ideas what this may be or may be the cause of. This tang is housed in a 75 gallon display with alot of rock work. He shows no signs of any kind of infection but his dorsal fin has been damaged in some way or another. The damage looks to large to be a bite from another fish. There has never been any signs of aggression from other tank mates. He shares this tank with 3 perc's, A very small pacific blue, 6 line wrass, phseudochromis, a couple emeralds and a coral bandid shrimp. He other wise looks healthy.

Well for one..what are you feeding it..it looks REALLY skinny..would say biggest problem is nutrition..I would also check water parameters..

How long have you had him and what do you feed him? He's too thin for sure.

I feed him Nori every other day and feed the fish a cube of brine or mysis everyother day. I have had him over a year.

I really think you need to feed him more. Here's a picture of mine, I feed him twice a day, Nori in the morning, flakes, frozen or pellets every night(alternate).

This is how the belly of a well fed Tang should look like.

Yea he definately looks better in the belly then mine. Think I will be stepping up the feedings. But realistically could this be the cause of the fin damage.

Nutrition and water quality would be your first line of defense..I feed my tang about 3 x 4" square of nori daily..more if he eats the first piece quickly..not to mention everything else I feed the tank...

He should recover nicely for you if you feed more..
