I saw the sticky thread says 5 foot 100 gallon tank. But, my custom built 80 gallon is 48x24x17. So, it will have plenty of swimming space. My only concern is the depth. Do you think it would be too shallow for it?

Personally I'd try to get the smallest one you can get. I've seen ones at my LFS under 2.5 Inches. Then just see how it goes. You will be able to see stress. If he is stressed and nervous build a trap and get him outa there.

I got a small yellow tang in my 85 gallon flat back hex and it is doing awesome. It's a fun fish. It follows me around now waiting for some nori, then at night, it "exercises" by doing some laps right before the lights go off. Definitely one of my favorite fish.
