yellow tang problem

Hi,

I have posted a video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SexewhzJcFk&feature=youtube_gdata_player of my yellow tang and it looks like it is irritated. It has been swimming this quickly for 2 days now. Also it has some red coloration near the beginning of his tail as seen in the video. It has been eating fine. I have had this tang for over 2 months now and never saw such a behavior with him. Please help!

I am just starting. So I have 2 black clownfish, 2 yellow tail damsels, 1 cleaner shrimp, 1 GBTA, 1 birds nest, 1 acropora. The tank is 5 months old and the yellow tang is more than 2 months old. What could stress it out? My water readings are good with 1.025 and 77.5 to 79 degrees.

Nitrates, Nitrites, Ammonia, Lack of o2, diet all could stress it.

That behavior, based on the video, looks like it might be chasing it's reflection.

The water parameters are all 0 with pH 8.0. I had it checked at my LFS. Why does it have a red coloration near the tail?

I just noticed something different. My lights went off like 2 hours back and the tang is swimming just fine. Could there be relation with lights? Is there any light impacting diseases for tangs?

We have one that acts the same way. He does it when he can see his reflection in the glass. When the back of the glass is dirty he acts normal and as soon as we clean it he starts fighting with himself, swimming back and forward, hitting his tail against the glass. So it might be that yours is doing the same thing.

Yeah that yellow tang is in love with himself, it's the reflection and he looks fine too me..lol

aecasasus, he has been hitting his tail against the front wall. But is it normal to start like this all of a sudden, like after 2 months in the tank? Nothing has been changed in the tank though.

Yup, he is fighting himself.

I put a mirror up in front of my tank whenever I add a new fish to keep my sailfin occupied. He acts the same way as yours is acting, hell mine has cut the acrylic durring is bouts to the death with himself.
