Yellow Tang Spot - What is it?

This is the second time I have seen this type of spot on my tang. The first one was 2-3 weeks ago and cleared up in a few days. Every few weeks his tail seems to be bitten up. I assume this is from my pair of mated clowns. They have spawned recently and the eggs have not yet hatched so maybe they are extra aggressive. I thought it might be a bite mark the first time and hopefully it is again but it does not look like a bite. The tang seems normal and is feeding.

Thanks for your help.

Interesting.....How is your water quality? How often do you do water changes? Do you soak frozen food in vitamins? Do you feed seaweed often?

Thanks for the response.

My water quality is fine and I test for; CA, KH, MG, NO3, PO4, SG and temp. My other fish; pair of clowns, mandarin, bangi cardinal and two green chromis, are all OK. All corals are also doing well. I do regular 5-10G water changes every week or two.

I feed frozen mysis, Cyclop-eeze flakes and Elos SV.2 pellets. I also feed the tang Ocean Nutrition Green Marine Alge every other day.

I attached a couple of more pictures. It looks like there is an open sore or bite (white part in middle) surrounded by brown patch.

Is this a new fish? How long has the tank been running? I would just do a couple large water changes 20% of the tank size.

I should have mentioned that I have had the tang for over a year and got it from another hobbyist. My 75G has been set up for a couple of months and it was in a 60G for a year prior to that.

Thanks for your recommendations RBU1.

Can anyone else identify what type of sickness this might be? I did notice some other small white bumps on the other side of the tang near the dorsal fin but on the body. If it was ich I would expect this to be on the fins.

The spot is also getting darker but not larger.

If it were ich you would see it in more places on the fish. The only time I have seen discoloration like that is when I used Flatworm exit. But it cleared up onits own in a week after a few large water changes.

A year later and my Yellow Tang has a similar mark in a different spot. Seems to be healing up again. Tank parameters are good and all other inhabitants are healthy.

Any ideas???
