I have a yellow tang that all has black. he has been in the tank for about 2 months before it showed up. no new fish were introduced after i put him in. Do i treat this like regular ich? If i can catch him, i'm gonna put him in my qt tank and medicate I think. Is that what i should do?

Hi,

IMO - this is pretty much a given with the Yellow Tang. I don't think you will really get rid of it. It will come back. My Yellow live with it on and off for about 5 years. My other fish never got it - I don't even know if other fish can get it.

My cleaners enjoyed jumping on my yellow to help out, but if the water is good and fish is health your fish should pull through.

That is just my experience, so take it for what it is worth.

it is very easy to get rid of "black ich" which is actually a type of flatworm. i've always used prazipro with good results, and although i don't usually recommend it you can actually use prazi in a reef tank provided you don't mind losing fanworms, etc.
