Ok everyone i have a tang in a 75 with 2 other clown fish. Tang is pooping out white feces.... what can i offer the guy to eat? hes eating fine and no other out of the ordinary things... can the parasite spread to my clowns?

If your fish's poop is white or yellow and slimey. Your fish is probably affected with intestinal flagellates. Nematodes could be a secondary cause. If you have a microscope on hand, take the poop that is no older than 5 minutes and look at it through the microscope at 50 to 100X. If the poop contains small worms, ranging in size from 1mm to much smaller, this would involve the larvae of livebearing nematodes. If the poop contains whitish, elongated. flat segments with almos squared off corners and an intrigate inner structure ina chain-like appearance than it is tapeworm and you can control it with a medication or if it is healthy than leave it alone, it may go away. If the poop contain numorous spindle-shaped eggs with pointed ends. This would be from thorney-headed worms. The infection is from isopods or water fleas which carry the larvae of thorney-headed worms. No easy treatment. If the feces contain elongated eggs with champagne-cork-like covers (can only be seen at 200-400X) than it has Capillaria worms. Probably not possible because it only happens in freshwater fish.

If you don't have a microscope you should put it in your qt and wait it out to see if it persists. Good luck

How long have you had the tang? Was this just one episode of white (I'm assuming stringy) poop, or is it ongoing?

I'd not panic over a single episode. Every single one of my fish has displayed white stringy poop on isolated occasions over the last two years. It can merely be a sign of stress. Have there been any recent changes in the tank?

Repeated episodes however would point towards some sort of intestinal parasite, and yes it can spread from fish to fish. In that case quarantine is in order and treat with Metronidazole, usually found under the name "Hex-a-Mit." Pipzine is another commonly suggested option, though I think that's pretty hard to find anymore.

yea i have seen the white feces more than once.... i guess its going back to quarantine tank..... hopefully i can catch it at night. this is the only symptom that i see.... the tang is very active eating like a pig and i see nothing else out of the ordinary. I take it garlic with mysis wouldnt help at all heh? what are the chances of the tangs system overcoming the parasite?with healthy nutrition.

I would start with garlic extract in the food. There is some evidence that it could be beneficial against intestinal worms. If that does not work, Praziquantel would be my next choice, again in the food.
