yellow tang

Hi, I just got a yellow tang on sunday and put him into my 75 gal bow, the only other fish in there is a maroon clown they seem to get along, but now my tang doesn't want to eat, I normally feed rod food, I tried giving him nori and romaine he doesn't want any of that, I tested the water parameters and they are fine, Any Idea on what these fish like?

You're on the right track with what you're trying to feed it. They're mainly herbivores. Nori, Spirulina Flakes, live Macro Algae like Gracillia or Calurpa. They will also eat frozen Formula 1 or 2 usually. Even though they're mainly herbivores, they'll also eat meaty foods at times.

If its only been since sunday, the Tang is probably still adjusting. I would clip some nori to the side of the tank or rubber band it to a piece of rock. Give it a chance and it should start picking at it in no time.

buy some garlic extreme from Kent marine. Drop some drops in some frozen food, he will go nuts for it.

I even add alittle to the tank water now and again;

try the nori clip, since it's only been a few days he's probably getting adjusted to his new home. Just keep an eye on him.

Mine are canivores is swear. They gobble the meaty stuff and leave ghe alge alone. must be something in the water.....

I do use a "mush" with oyster/shrimp/scallops garlic and viatmins. it may be they get that attracted to garlic. try kent's. a drop in the frozen dish will go along way...

U don't need to waste your money on garlic from the LFS. I wouldn just buy a small jar of chopped garlic from the grocery store and then you can use it for cooking too.

We had a tang years ago that wouldn't eat anything green. I don't know what was his deal. The tangs we have now do eat from the nori clip and eat anything green in the tank. The "greenless" tang would eat flake food and mysis.

Since it has only been a few days with yours not eating, it may just be adjusting. Keep an eye on him and offer differnt greens and nongreen food.

Good luck
:)

Exactly. It took my powder blue almost two weeks til he started eating what I gave him. The minute you seem him picking off the rocks, then you know that's a good sign and it's only a matter of time :)

I have a yellow tang and maroon clown in a 72 bow front as well. What is your water temp? Before I got a heater, my fish would eat less if temp was below 76.

My tang eats anything I put in there (meat or veggies such as Cheato) but he especially likes meaty stuff like mysis and pieces of silversides.
