Yellow tile fish

Saw this beauty on Live Aquaria, was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this particular fish? I saw it on the difficult list here on RC but L.A listed it as easy to keep.

Well, LA also used to classify yellow striped clingfish as "easy" and still says that they will thrive on meaty foods like mysis, etc. In fact, they almost always starve in captivity.

Don't get me wrong, LA is a great source for good quality fish, but their descriptions can't always be relied on.

That's interesting b/c I've always relied on L.A to give an accurate description on the level of difficulties of fish species. I know that these tend to carpet surf but just thought as long as there is a cover, I'd be safe.

Anyone else have any previous experience with these or tile fish in general?

It certainly is a beautiful fish regardless of it's level of difficulty in captivity.

Well, I have 2. Apart from one of them being really shy, both of them eat meaty foods , especially table shrimp. They look gorgeous and are worth everything cent, but sadly one cant see them much. I am not an advanced aquarist, I guess I just lucked out, but I wouldnt say they are THAT hard to keep

Yellows are the easiest tilefish to keep. They are slightly more aggressive than other tilefish species.

Personally, I have found tilefish to be quite hardy once rhey get pastt he first couple of weeks after collection. They are a deeper water fish and newly captured specimens often have decompression issues. If they make it past that they are hardy, outgoing, peaceful fish that are not picky about food.

Well, I bought 2. In the beginning, one of them seemed much friendlier than the other. Now, for some reason, the shy one is out and the other one disappeared i am reluctant to lift the rock, as it might stress it even more. I don't know what to do.

Leave it be, the more you disturb the tank the shyer it will be. The behavior you described is consistent with their social hierarchy. One fish will behave dominantly toward e other. This may cause the submissive one to hide so as not to challenge the dominant one, however dominance can flip flop. This dominance is most notable in the yellows and fourmani tilefish compares to other tilefish.

I agree with the aggression. I had to sell mine because he would attack any bottom dwellers I had. I saw him literally pick up my lawn mower blenny (not small) and shake him like a rag a few times.
