Yellow Wrasse (Halichoeres chrysus) highly recommended

Just wanted to let everyone know that back in my days with a sixline wrasse, I was always disappointed with his skill at hunting things. :( One of the main reasons I got the fish in the first place was to control the pyram snails that were on my clam.

Well, I just recently got a Yellow Wrasse (Halichoeres chrysus), and he is doing a great job! I haven't actually seen a pyram snail in a while, but if they ever do come back, it won't be for long!

I recommend this wrasse for the following reasons:

1. Very colorful, a bright yellow.
2. Totally aggressive with small bugs and things in the substrate/LR. A very good hunter and even goes after some of my smaller stomatella snails on occasion.
3. Reef compatible (at least for me). Even my tiny little "Sexy Shrimps" don't get eaten or bullied by the wrasse. He only eats bugs and snails that he finds in the substrate/LR. Hasn't nipped at any corals, snails, shrimp, and of course clams. :)

Here's a picture of mine. (Kind of hard to photograph as they are always on the move, but mine comes out when I use my cleaning magnet. He always catches/eats any Stomatella snails that fall of the magnet!)

The pastel green/lime green is basically the same thing too. Not only are they great for pyram's, but they're total clowns! Too cute.

had one for a while i got him he was small and skinny, six months he grew from 2 in to 4 and nice and fat . then he decided to carpet surf i miss the little bugger

I add one 2 weeks a go, very cool fish. He was on the skinny side when I purchased him, but he's eating well and always crusing my clams. My 6 line almost never cares about them. I do keep the covers on my tank now since I lost my Solar wrasses.

I'm afraid he would eat all the good things out of my DSB.I'm happy to hear he doesn't bother the sexy shrimps.

brekke-what fish are you referring to?

I have a 4"+ Yellow Coris Wrasse in my reef for my clams. He is a model citizen, never bothers anyone; that's including my pr of Cleaner Shrimp, school of 5 Leopard Wrasses, 3 Social Wrasses, and my Sand is full of worms and digging copepods.

He did carpet surf once while I was watching TV so I heard him and got him back in. That was 4 years ago. Very cool Wrasse.

So these wrasses won't go and eat all the spaghetti worms, bristle worms, and pods? I was thinking about getting one for flatworm control. I know it'll munch on some pods too, which is OK, as long as it doesn't eat ALL the pods and leaves my non-flatworms alone :D

Can't say how well a wrasse will do on your flat worms. I can say with my wrasses I have listed about I have millions of spaghetti worms, pods everywhere (just look and my fat pair of Mandrian Gobies) and yes a bristle worm time from time. I can not find a flat worm in my reef, but do have a few in my refugium.

If you need a fish to control flat worms, the yellow wrasse might do the job, but higher chances are with the Leopard wrasse.

Best results are with the nudibranch C.varians.
